"We don't want to have to needlessly quarantine someone that doesn't need to be," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.

This effort is a collaboration of the NBA, the players' union and medical officials, and officials involved believe it should serve in a proactive manner to identify situations where staff members and players may be interacting in close proximity on a frequent basis that could prove troublesome should an infection occur.

would this fall under privacy issues ??
Players union ok with it.
The NBA is a billion dollar industry ... protecting its assets.

And China will run it. Look at what the Uighurs have to go through on that PBS video on YouTube.

It doesn't fall under privacy issues, because the NBA will only require players and other personnel to wear sensors "during all team-organized activities outside of games". In other words, only when they're at work. Not when they're at home, not when they're on the road in the team hotel. Plenty of businesses require their employees to wear some sort of tracking device while they're at the workplace. Hell, there are high schools where students are tracked via RFID chips in their ID cards.
