View Full Version : Chicago Bulls: a point when MJ knew Pippen was better all-around

There was apparently a time when the Chicago Bulls all-time great shooting guard Michael Jordan knew that Scottie Pippen was better all-around.

the 1992 Summer Olympics, where the “Dream Team” made waves in Barcelona, Spain. Apparently it was those Summer Olympics and that 1992 Dream Team that made Jordan realize how good Pippen actually was on both ends of the floor. Given that Pippen was one of the team leaders in steals and defensive rebounds, that makes a lot of sense.

Pip is one of my favorite players of all time. His overall impact to the team in the offense, defense and leadership to support or offset that of michael’s is undeniable.

Only MJ won a bunch of rings with a 2nd option that was far beneath him statistically

CONCLUSION - only Jordan had a bunch of carry-job rings that were far greater carry-jobs than 11' Dirk

Pippen forced Jordan to average 5 more points than everyone in playoff history (33.5) and be scoring champ to win titles

That isn't optimal

So the Bulls were built suboptimally - Jordan had to double Pippen's scoring average and still average more apg and assist percentage - no one in history had to do that - and no one had to carry the scoring load every year

Ultimately, only Jordan won a bunch of rings with a sidekick that was far inferior statistically (6 "dirk" rings.. see previous post above)
