Associated Press, April 9, 1989:
"In just 16 games at point guard, Jordan has gone from the league’s leading scorer the last two seasons to being lumped with Johnson, John Stockton of Utah and Isiah Thomas of Detroit as the elite among NBA point guards. Jordan may already be the best of the group."

So Jordan was the best passer, scorer and defender in his 5th year, aka the best basketball we've ever seen...
Whereas it took lebron 17 years to be called the best PG, and he wasn't all-defense or a top 10 scorer, aka lower level... :lebronamazed:...

So he was the best scorer, defender and passer in the league - aka GOAT

Correct.
And not only that, but one guy in one article posing the question that Jordan MIGHT be the best PG in the league is not even close to the same as being considered the best.
You can find articles of people claiming Lillard is better than Steph. Or that Chris Paul is a top 3 PG of all time. Doesn’t mean that either are “considered” to be such.
Magic won 3 of 4 MVPs during this time, including the actual season when this stretch of Jordan’s happened. Jordan put up 11 assists over 20 or so games while his team went .500. There’s nothing to consider.

Exactly.
There were metrics in the mid 90s claiming Tim Hardaway was the best
I MJ was that good why was Pippen deemed the point forward? Just another bullshit article slurping Jordans wee-wee slurped up by the biggest Jordan stalker.

He wasn't a better passer than Magic or even close. I strongly disagree with the take that MJ was the best PG in 1989.
With that being said, MJ was an underrated passer. Give him a lot of the ball and make him run the offense every possession and he will give you some impressive assist numbers. MJ could see guys and throw great passes. He was just more in the scoring mindset.

LeBron is the only player capable of playing all 5 positions at an elite level
Lebron can't play the off-guard spot, whereas Jordan was the goat off-guard and the best PG in the league
Ultimately, the goat standard is being the best in the league on-ball and off-ball.... And being the best passer, scorer and defender at the same time - Jordan reached these levels and lebron didn't...
Infact, Lebron isn't top 10 in scoring and hasn't been all-defense in 8 years - that's a far lower level than scoring champ and dpoy.. Jordan was scoring champ and top 5 dpoy from 88-98' (the goat standard)

Has anyone ever averaged 10 assists in a series without bringing the ball up and playing the PG position?
No one
Except the goat when he destroyed Magic heads-up in the 1991 Finals..
when mj set his mind to something - it's a wrap - he achieved the title of best passer after just 16 games at the position in 89'... He averaged 30/9/11 with a stretch of 10 triple doubles in 11 games.. it's clear that if he played his career at PG, he would be a better PG than Magic
Ultimately, the goat standard is being the best in the league on-ball and off-ball.... And also being the best passer, scorer and defender at the same time - Jordan reached these levels and lebron didn't...

You never got to see lebron's best because you never got to see him carry his lottery casts from 05' or 19' in the playoffs - you only saw lebron when he had developed, high seeds and teammates producing more than prime Pippen (above).
Otoh, Jordan's runs from 85-89' were with legit lottery casts - he nearly made the Finals with a legit lottery cast... It was a treat to see real carry-jobs with bottom-dweller casts...
And even when his casts improved in the 90's, the improvement was marginal (it was the exact same players), so it always felt like carry-jobs (the stats reflected carry-jobs).. even when pippen started getting accolades, all 6 rings still felt like lebron's 2015 run where he took high volume - Jordan's was always required to take lebron's 15' volume (carry-job level)

Year 5 as a point guard Jordan was stat padding and losing. Unnatural position to play. Detriment to his team. Needs Pippen to be PG.
LeBron as a point guard year 17 = championship.
Next argument. Too easy.

Pippen can't average 30/9/11 at point guard or average 12 apg in the Finals... Only Jordan could
Ultimately, Jordan was called the best PG, so he matches lebron in lebron's strength (passing), while still being the best scorer and defender as well
So Jordan matched lebron at lebron's strength (on-ball), but lebron can't match Jordan at off-ball... That means Jordan >>>

“The guys at the scorer’s desk let me know what I need,” Jordan said, according to the LA Times.
The Bulls’ assistant coaches also helped wherever they could.
“They keep reminding me when I get back to the huddle,” Jordan said. “They say, ‘You need three more of this. You need four more of that.’”
Instead of focusing on winning games, Jordan is focused on stats.

Best passer, best scorer, best defender - Lebron never reached this level of basketball like Jordan did
Ultimately, Jordan was the best on-ball and off-ball player, whereas lebron can't play off-ball... So he's half as good - the stats support this - 3 rings in 15 seasons is half of 6/15

Since switching to point guard for the Chicago Bulls, Michael Jordan has become statistic conscious. He has started checking with statisticians to see how close he is to a triple-double. He had a string of seven consecutive triple-doubles broken Friday night.
"The guys at the scorer's desk let me know what I need," Jordan said.
So, too, do the Bulls' assistant coaches.
"They keep reminding me when I get back to the huddle," Jordan said. "They say, 'You need three more of this. You need four more of that.' "
