Kareem also got blatantly robbed of the 1980 Finals MVP...

He was pretty much a role player for 2 of his championships, lacked leadership skills, & his defense wasn't all time great compared to bigs like Russell, Walton, Hakeem etc. With that said, I have no problem with people listing him ahead of LeBron. Unstoppable offensive force with a crazy amount of accolades.

Making OP vanish for months is a pretty solid argument

better peak play is lebron's argument over kareem. i'm a longevity guy so I still likely have kareem over bron but i would lean kareem over mj too.

He's surpassed him in tos already if I'm not mistaken but nobody ever talks about it.

Well, yeah, LeBron plays 5 positions and won MVP at 2 of them Finals MVP at 3 of them.

He's working on winning MVP at 3 positions this season - where he will get the MVP he deserved last season at point guard.

Next question.

Kareem at his peak was an absolute powerhouse. From 1976-1980, the man averaged 32/14/4/4 on 62 %TS in the playoffs in a more defensive era while playing DPOY level defense himself. And the man had no weaknesses. He's the clutchest big ever with that skyhook, could make free throws, he put on more muscle and couldn't be bullied like in his Bucks days... Kareem in that period is quite possibly the best player to ever play in the NBA.

I don't think Lebron is quite as good as Kareem as a player.

Nope he hasnt, Lebron only can make a case to surpass Magic right now, which I dont think he has done it yet. MJ, Kareem and Magic are ahead of Lebron right now, Lebron will need to win his 5th title to surpass Magic, and then another ring will finally put him ahead of Kareem. In other words, Lebron will not surpass Kareem even if he wins this year, he needs 6 rings to be ahead of Kareem.

OP brings up a good point. I have also been saying since 2016 than Lebron is chasing KAREEM first before chasing Jordan. In fact, I had Kareem as the second best player of all time ahead of Lebron since 2016, but Lebron has finally surpassed Kareem in my opinion.

It's been annoying listening to Lebron's "longevity" by the media so often, when Kareem has been the KING of longevity and Lebron arguably still needs to prove himself as having the best prime "longevity" ever.

Was kareem actively recruiting teammates throughout his career with his achievements?

Kareem was allNBA level starting 1970. Last allNBA was 1986. That's a 17 year span. LeBron was allNBA beginning in 05 and is expected to be this year. That's also a 17 year span. In terms of Longevity playing as a top player in the legue, the two are now roughly equal. Kareem though missed the allNBA team in 75 and 82. Because of that LeBron has more allNBA seasons than Kareem. Despite Kareem holding the edge with more total seasons played, LeBron has surpassed him in seasons as a top level player.

LeBron and Kareem had peaks that were roughly the same level, but LeBron's play has been more consistently close to his peak level compared to Kareem. LeBron is currently in his 17th year averaging at least 25ppg. Kareem's first and last year's averaging that many points cover a span of 12 years and he was below that threshold two of those years. Kareem maintained 20 ppg scoring for five more years. LeBron has asany 25ppg seasons as Kareem has 20ppg seasons and 7 more 25 ppg season than Kareem.

Kareem's best argument over LeBron is longevity, but LeBron has equalled or exceeded Kareem in most areas of quality play over the course of his career. Years of relatively low scoring non-All NBA level play don't move the needle much in comparing comparing two.
