Nets tried to retain Jarett Allen in the James Harden Trade

Brooklyn tried to retain Jarrett Allen in the Harden deal, sources told Brian Windhorst on the Hoop Collective podcast. Houston wanted a fourth first round pick and did get it via Cleveland (via MIL). But, Brooklyn tried to acquire a first round pick by shopping Landry Shamet.


Sigh, if only we were able to trade someone else for a pick and get it, ie. Dinwiddie. Losing Allen is huge 'cause DJ is shit, this can be the difference between a title winner and a second round exit. I can only hope and pray that Sean Marks can pull a miracle and get the needed pieces for our C/PF position. Otherwise, we will have to wait till next off-season hoping to get a good signing like Ibaka to Clippers. :(

I would guess that they were trying to trade Kyrie for Harden straight up vs giving up all that depth, but Houston wanted no part of it.

Nah theres no way the Heat would've agreed to send Adebayo to us, even if we give up KD for him. In retrospect though, we should've tried maximum to get Ibaka, he would be a perfect fit for us playing at 5.

We will be next season, but this season is kinda busted since the trade happened with little hindsight of what we should've built our rosters incase Harden would be with us. I bet the FO never planned this ahead, only after Dinwiddie went down and Irving became problematic again. So we will be stuck with no interior defense for a while, 'cause the better FAs aint available now. Unless we can somehow grab one from the waived ones like Cavs getting rid of Mcgee and Drummond, but thats a big if.
