Why are kawhi and iggy weak? If you value defense than you wouldn't have them up there. Iggy held one of the goats to his lowest efficiency ever and kawhi gave the same goat a shit ton of problems also. The stats don't show it with kawhi because bron waa crazy efficient against everyone else that series but kawhi totally took mia and bron out of their normal rythem.

This is how they selected Kawhi to be the Finals MVP in 2014:

Definitely Wes Unseld. The refs literally sabotaged Elvin Hayes:

Remember the Elvin Hayes incident? During the 1978 playoffs, the Championship series between Washington and Seattle reached the seventh game. Rick Barry, whose Golden State team had not qualified for the playoffs that year, was announcing that game and doing his usual candid job. He pointed out that one of the referees had a short temper and that he was especially apt to make hasty foul calls against Hayes, whom he did not like because Hayes did a lot of complaining about his calls.
Hayes, who had been the series' outstanding player to that point, picked up his fourth foul during the third quarter and argued before going to the bench. The same official whistled him for his fifth and sixth fouls in quick succession after he reentered the game early in the fourth quarter. Replays showed that Hayes had not committed either of the fouls. On one of them there had been no physical contact at all.
But Hayes was out of the game, and a vindictive referee could have deprived Washington of a league championship becaus the Bullets were ahead by 8 or 10 points when Hayes went out. Paced by Bob Dandridge, the Bullets did hold on to win. But Hayes was deprived of an award he wanted and deserved. Since he had not played during the closing minutes of the championship game, the championship series MVP trophy was given to Wes Unseld. Unseld, then in the twilight of his career, had produced little offense for the Bullets and had been victimized by Seattle center Marvin Webster for 30 points, or a basket more or less, in the final game.

Billups wasn't exactly a bad choice, but Ben Wallace was the real FMVP in 2004.

But there were no other options in 2012. Bron was the only possible choice.

In 2010 many thought Pau Gasol should've won Finals MVP. The LA Times said it shouldve went to Gasol. People still talk about that 10 years later.

Given that we now know how good of a players kawhi is, I am going to pick Iguodala who was simply a role player for gsw and was on the tail end of his career.

Kawhi did a great job defending Lebron in the series and outplayed him from Game 3 through 5 which were three consecutive Spurs blowouts. Some peeps on here should go back and watch the series. Stats don't always tell the whole story. Although Kawhi did average like 24/9 on 68% shooting those last three games.

The only real travesty on here is the Undeld Finals MVP. Hayes got robbed because nobody liked him.

Here is my post from years ago about that:

Winner: Wes Unseld

Rightful Winner: Elvin Hayes

Explanation for Result: Hate of Elvin Hayes; likability of Wes Unseld
Let's start with the stats shall we?

Elvin Hayes: 20.7 ppg, 11.9 rpg, 1.4 apg, 2.0 bpg, 1.6 spg on 48.0 %FG/50.9 %TS

Wes Unseld: 9.0 ppg, 11.7 rpg, 3.9 apg, 0.1 bpg, 0.6 spg on 52.0 %FG/53.6 %TS

Hayes scored more than double the points, rebounded better, and defended better. During the season Hayes had a 4.6 to 3.9 edge in DWS and a 2.0 to 0.6 edge in blocks per game. In the playoffs that margin only grew to 1.7 to 1.1 in DWS and 2.5 to 0.4 in blocks per game. Unseld somehow got huge credit for his Game 7 performance (15/9/6 on 50% shooting in 45 minutes) compared to Elvin Hayes (12/8/1 on 50% shooting in 30 minutes). Late in the 3rd quarter with the Bullets leading comfortably by about 15 points Hayes fouled out on two consecutive phantom calls. Marvin Webster had a dominant final quarter and ended the game with 27 points 19 rebounds on 66.7 %FG with no Hayes around to guard him. Unseld's man and Seattle rookie Jack Sikma had 21 points and 11 rebounds. The Bullets' defense didn't just crash without the Big E but Unseld was terrible in the clutch. The Sonics cut the lead to four points with a minute left. Wes was fouled and missed both free throws, Silas scored and the lead was down to two. Unseld was fouled again and hit just one of two free throws but the Sonics couldn't buy a bucket and Washington escaped with a title thanks to Bob Dandridge and Mitch Kuptchak making some huge baskets late in the game. One could even say the real Finals MVP was Seattle's Dennis Johnson who shot 0-14 from the field in Game 7 and wasted such dominant efforts by their big man duo (dark humor I know!). Let's break it down game by game shall we?

Game 1 Hayes: 21/9/0 on 50.0 %FG Unseld: 6/7/4 on 71.4 %FG
Game 2 Hayes: 25/9/3 on 54.5 %FG Unseld: 2/15/5 on 12.5 %FG
Game 3 Hayes: 29/20/0 on 50.0 %FG Unseld: 2/12/2 on 25.0 %FG
Game 4 Hayes: 20/13/1 on 44.4 %FG Unseld: 15/11/4 on 70.0 %FG
Game 5 Hayes: 17/9/2 on 50.0 %FG Unseld: 13/14/3 on 62.5 %FG
Game 6 Hayes: 21/15/3 on 39.1 %FG Unseld: 6/14/5 on 60.0 %FG

So apart from Game 5 where it's about even Hayes is better in every game. Unseld was a total disaster in the first three games. And in the first six games with Hayes glued on him Webster could manage to put up 12.8 points and 15.0 rebounds per game on 41.6% from the field. A far cry from his Game 7 monster performance huh?

Hayes by 1978 was an exemplary teammate. Anyone who has read his press conferences would see how much he praises his teammates, deflects credit to others, and always says only the best things about Unseld despite their personal animosity.

The reason this is the biggest award travesty in NBA history is that a) it was a decision not even based on love of a certain player (Unseld) as much as it was based on irrational hate of another player (Hayes) and b) it was at least partly caused by controversial refereeing that took Hayes out of Game 7.

Today I learned that Wes Unseld averaged 9/12/4 en route to a FMVP

For reference, his teammate Elvin Hayes averaged 21/12 on nearly just as good efficiency. I’m so confused on how the award went to Unseld over Hayes. Was his defense that good or something?

Kawhi is the only Finals MVP I can think of where if you completely remove him off the team, his team still wins the series.
Wade's and Bosh's suckage in the 2014 finals was just that immense.
