Why does CBS have the super bowl this year and not NBC?

2018 season - CBS
2019 season - FOX

2020 season - CBS

Shouldn't it be NBC's turn to host the super bowl? Each network usually rotate.

I believe it has something to do with NBC doing the Olympics this year.

Close. It's because NBC is broadcasting the Winter Olympics next year. Winter Olympics are scheduled to start on Feb 4, the 2022 Super bowl is on Feb 6. Having control of both events means NBC can ensure that the two events aren't being broadcast at the same time and competing with each other. Also expect NBC to do some major promoting of its Olympics coverage during the Super Bowl broadcast.
