View Full Version : Why is it a given that Luka is the future of the league when Jokic is better?

Hes only 3 years older too. Nikola gonna be in the league for a long time to come and he already got an old man game and dont really on athleticism at all so he can still be an elite player up to his mid 30s at least like Dirk was.
Luka, Giannis, Zion, Cade, Emoni, Ja, Trae etc. are the future but not sure its a given Jokic wont be the best player.

The same reason why you said AD isn't even a top 10 big and now you're sucking him off saying he is the goat big

Luka had a better season last year and his game is more entertaining to casual fans and he's better looking.
But Jokic can change the narrative with his play. If he keeps playing like this - and most importantly if he wins - then he can be that guy if he wants to be that guy.

Luka, due to being younger, has more of upside. He has lots of stuff to improve on his game. Usually players don't hit their prime/peak till they are 26- 28. Luka is only 21.
He is already really good, so the sky is the limit for this kid.
But Jokic is really damn good too. He is having one hell of a season so far. He definitely has an old man game. His type of game has longevity assuming no injuries happen and if he has the drive for it.

Jokic is the most skillful basketball player and its not that close. He is the type of player that woud make your team look stacked. I don't see Luka surpassing him.

Luka will soon hit 22 and Jokic is 26 in a month. So there is a 4 years difference.

Top 5 players in the NBA right now:
1. Nikola Jokic
2. Russell Westbrook
3. Bradley Beal
4. Pascal Siakam
5. Tobias Harris
Anyone who disagrees is living in the past.

I was honestly thinking after last year's playoffs that I wasn't sure what Luka could improve on offensively. It's mainly a question of whether he improves his shooting percentages, but that doesn't always happen for players who are stars like Luka. I know he's just 22 - but I get the feeling that Luka peaked early and doesn't have that much room to improve on the offensive end unless he improves his 3 point shot. I don't see him taking that Harden leap into becoming a mid 30 ppg scorer I think he'll have a good career but will only improve a moderate amount. He could improve a lot defensively.

You can clearly see he has improved on defense if you watched the games. As far as numbers go, he came in out of shape so in the first 4 games, he went 2 out of 21 on 3 pointers. In-game 5 this season he was back in shape and has since done 28ppg (47%, 33%, 74%), 10rpg, 10apg, 1spg, and 4 turnovers. He has improved overall, but his numbers would be much better if the team did not play like crap. He has also shot a lot more 2 point jump shots, and they look really good.
Nobody expected Jokic to suddenly be this much better. You could say it is because he has improved his skills, but nobody adds this much after such a short offseason. It is because he came into the season in great shape for the first time. I could see Luka improving his jump shot and basketball IQ to a point where he would average 30ppg on 50%+ shooting while getting 10rpg and 12 apg.

I've been saying since the 2019 playoffs that Jokic is a top 5 kind of player. In my opinion, he's arguably a better offensive player than KD ever was because he's an absolutely all-time great level passer. What people slept on is the fact that Jokic is an elite three-level scorer. Elite midrange, elite post game, elite floater, elite finishing touch, elite dexterity, elite balance and he's a solid enough three-point shooter. There's no one besises maybe LeBron i trust more with the game on the line. I wish Jamal Murray were actually an all-star, because the nuggets would be deadly. I think Jokic is tied for top 5 in the league right now.

You know what, I was gonna respond talking about Luka until I saw this. OP is a ******.
People are appreciating jokic (aka 7'1 windhorst) with the way he's improving each year, especially for a big guy who was only a 41st pick from slightly more than half a decade ago. He should have gotten an mip back then. Plus, embarrassing two different teams from 1-3 deficits during the bubble is one remarkable feat. Otoh, folks are already hyping luka because of his potential to muster several triple-doubles in a short period of time but from what can be seen rn, he's lacking the consistency in terms of leading his team to win more games; i know he has kp but it can't be overlooked. Oh, and we all have yet to see him advance past the first round someday too.

Well, we did not see Jokic make the playoffs before he was 24, while we saw Luka lead his team in the playoffs at 21. You can ride Jokic all you want, but let's compare them when Luka become the same age and gets a good team around him.

They both need a few salads. Be a shame to waste their talents.

Yes, i do know that too but don't forget the nuggets had a winning or near-winning season in 17/18. If they were playing in the east, they would have easily gotten a spot during those times but as usual, the comp in the west is tougher so it didn't become possible for them with a moderate record.

Luka might eat himself out of the league in 2 years
