Because today, their GM was rewarded with an extension:

Raptors sign general manager Bobby Webster to contract extension (http://www.insidehoops.com/blog/?p=25114)

We literally traded DeMar DeRozan, Poetl for Kawhi and Danny Green (what a steal) we got Marc Gasol and got rid of Valanciunas in the process. We won a ring. We created an all star in Siakam. We are creating another one in VanVleet. Give props to the organization that has done all of that by taking risks despite not having the most attractive destination for markee players.

and how's the team looking now? will the 1 ring be worth years of playoff misses expected to come?

Why are y'all so excited though? Last season no Kawhi = Second Round exit (1 win away from a conference final) Look at us now, we are one win away from being 7th seed. We will end up 6th seed or 5th seed by the end of the season.

We are 9-12 which is not great. However, y'all wanna act like teams with losing records never made it to the playoffs in the EAST?

Oh today the East is that strong? :oldlol:

Bro we are not missing the playoffs. You are out of your mind.

Let's see if they miss the playoffs in the following seasons or not. And yes, that 1 ring is worth of years of playoff misses. What's the point of competing otherwise?

Any team that has 0 rings in their entire franchise history would give up everything for 1 ring.

You have low ambitions. We trying to win it all not just make the playoff dummy. I'd rather not make the playoffs this season if we are to lose in the first round, tbh.

Please can you stop acting like you don't know that the only way for Toronto to get stars, it's either by drafting one or by trying to trade for one? No superstar is looking at Canada to play basketball. So we have a disadvantage already.

Why you barking like we are receiving fair treatment compared to the rest of the league?

raps are fine, still should make the playoffs this year but i'm curious if they can if lowry leaves this offseason. they are kind of a pacers/jazz situation in previous years where they have many good pieces but none of them are stars and all get paid maybe too well. OG and Fred's contracts are fine but siakam is an overpay rn.

He's got 3 30 point games in his last 5 matches. If it was not for VanVleet exploding for 54 points he could have been 4 30 point games. He is slowly getting back to who he is. Which is an All-Star caliber player. I won't lie to myself and say superstar but he is definitely an all-star. He also plays great defense.

How do you know they'll miss the playoffs for years at a time? They have FVV and Siakam. They won a ring without ever bottoming out, they can do it again. Why not?

They could pivot to tanking this year, get a good draft pick, and be right back in it next year, too.

There are teams that bottomed out ~10 years ago, were never good before that, aren't good now, and aren't going to be good anytime soon, either.

If you can scout and draft well, and your coach and culture are good, you're putting yourself in position so that you're one player away from contention. That's where you want to be if you're not an LA or NY team. It's where the Blazers are now, it's where Toronto was 3 years ago, it's where Detroit was in 2003.
