Sure. Gas prices were artificially low during the height of COVID-19 because nobody was driving. Refineries were backed up, tankers couldn't find a place to unload their cargo. Refineries were dumping gas onto the market because it cost more to keep that crude oil on the tanker that it did to dump that oil at a loss.
Now people are driving more.
Gas prices nationwide are still way below where they were before the 'rona bit our ass. I remember gas prices over $3 a gallon.

Yup, demand starts to rise and so do the prices. When demand was low across 2020, so were the prices. Both supply and demand can impact the price. It's basic economics.
Price goes up if demand goes up and/or supply goes down. Supply is currently overbloated to the point that they had to slow down oil extraction around the world for 7-8 months. Difference is that the demand is going up now globally so that is driving up the price.
Price goes down if demand goes down and/or supply goes up. We had demand go down in 2020, but supply has been pretty much the same across the US. Demand dropping is why the price fell, and lack of demand caused supply to eventually go up from waiting tankers bringing in oil that wasn't getting used. That further dropped the prices.
Regardless, oil prices are low still. They will go up more as more people get vaccinated and people begin to travel/drive more. Demand will go up further.

All kidding aside, the price of gas is based on the spot price of crude, which is all market driven, long vs short futures. I look for crude to drop a lot in the near future.

Gas prices peaked under obama at $5.75

-Oil prices were under $2 from December 2014 to January 2018 before rising to around $2 from April 2018 to January 2020. Last I checked, Obama was president until January 2017.
-Across 2020 covid year, they have been the lowest since 2009 economy crash.
-They are currently around $1.50, which is the lowest they have been since August 2017.

idk why I'm even bothering since you and that other guy have already proven you're willing to lie but:
"However, this year President Trump did indeed impact gasoline prices.
Gasoline prices fell sharply because oil prices collapsed. President Trump influenced that by conning Saudi Arabia into increasing production and then letting Iran continue to export oil."
https://www.forbes.com/sites/rrapier/2019/01/11/gasoline-prices-under-presidents-bush-obama-and-trump/?sh=363e34221f71
just one of the many things that actually DO influence it, not just supply and demand. Which if that was the case, prices would have never gone down for oil until covid hit as more people are on this planet than ever before.

The Texas deep freeze has played a part in gas prices gong up. A lot of gasoline is produced on the Gulf coast. Those refineries are not set up to handle temperatures in the teens. Many are still down making repairs. Don't get me wrong, dumbass Biden's actions absolutely will make gas prices go up however there are other factors that have impacted the price more than stupid policies from a man who has not even been in office (albeit illegitimately) for two whole months.

refineries are down roughly 20% sure, you are correct.
you know what else is correct? Gas prices would and were still going up before that happened. Gas prices will still be going up after the refineries are fully going again as well.

That's one reason. Here's another big reason too:
OPEC oil production cut is still intact, even as the demand goes up. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/oil-market-counts-down-critical-234144893.html
When demand went down big time last year, opec decided to significantly curb down oil production globally. OPEC has not yet opened up the oil production limits and just said they won't be. What happens when oil demand goes up but production stays curbed?? PRICE GOES UP.

So, where is the most powerful man in all the world during all this? And what is he doing? Trump did get in the middle of this if you haven't forgotten. He got in the middle of a lot of this with other nations, and no i'm not talking about oil i'm talking about many other things.

Oil is actually in it's 'sweet spot' currently...which is between $60-$70
That is where it is cheap enough to make driving affordable and expensive enough to keep the oil industry healthy.
previous to this the oil industry crashed...oil was dirt cheap, stock piles enormous...and the US is actually the #1 producer of oil in the world which hurts
prices going up is actually a really good sign for the economy...means we are out driving again!

Trump didn't do anything to get in the middle of it. It was OPEC, which is very powerful organization. They control the global supply and oil barrel prices. Take it up with them. Biden doesn't control OPEC either. If opec opens up the oil supply then oil prices would plummet again, but they don't want to. They prefer oil prices to go up. Biden can't make opec to do what he wants - this is not American exceptionalism where you roll in with destroyers and aircraft carriers to threaten opec

yeah that's not what happened, for fracking to even be profitable oil prices need to be where they are now...when oil prices are low half the fracking industry is out of a job
Trump was literally fighting for higher oil prices during covid and if he were in office today he would be gloating on them and how he saved the oil industry

Sanction who? All of the OPEC nations? They produce something like more than 50% of the world's oil, and they set the global oil prices/production/distribution. If you put pressure on them, prices go up even more :oldlol:
Anyways, OPEC decided this week that they will not be increasing production anytime soon. OPEC will not meet again until early April. Demand is picking up globally, especially as more businesses open up & more vaccines are given (travel restrictions will slowly begin to open up), so be ready for oil prices to go up even more.
On top of that, our Texas oil refineries had to slash production too in last 2 weeks due to the cold spell. Some are still severely impacted and down, going through repairs and/or slowly being opened up.

Actually, OPEC has control over 80% of the world's oil reserves. The US is just a mosquito when it comes to oil pricing.

If you sanction all of the opec+ countries, oil prices would go up even more. We would be shooting ourselves in the foot as higher prices are passed onto the consumers just like the Trump tariffs. Do you not understand that?
