I think he was injured the previous WCF and Finals. And with the Lakers having the shortest off-season ever he didn't have enough time to fully heal and recover let alone stay in shape. Probably also the reason why he somehow regressed, even his FT% falling off a cliff.
But the Lakers are doing a remarkable job keeping him somewhat healthy and playable. If he was still with the Pelicans, he'd be out again for a number of months.
