As someone that has battled with depression before, I have never once contemplated suicide because the thought of actually going through and taking your own life is too daunting to me.

You didn’t have severe depression. Everyone has battled depression at one point in time. Severe depression is not the same. Mental illness is real. Plenty of factors weigh in on a person deciding to give up on life.
