View Full Version : Is Lebron going for MVP?

First 14 games: 31.8mpg

Last 12: 38.1mpg

He also just played three overtime games in a row...seems like he might be going for MVP, or he knows it's a short season and covid will make teams miss even more games. Even with AD out for games, I think the Lakers should either sit Lebron out a game or two coming up or get his minutes back down to 32mpg.

He is going for #5.

With #5 his resume individually will be:

5 MVP
17 All-NBA teams.
6 All defence.
36 000 points.

Nobody can match that individually.

This

His resume above + 7,500 playoff points when no one even has 6,000 is in a league of it's own. Oh and did we mention 4 FMVPs, possibly 5?

The minutes increase is about necessity. If he doesn't play they don't win.

If his team plays better when he's off-court, he plays less, if his team sucks when he's off-court, he plays more.

He's their Superman. He comes to save the day.

If they play LeBron 32 minutes per game right now they will lose all of those games.

The keyword here is ''going''. He isn't going for anything. It just comes naturally to him.

I dunno, this thread sort of suggests that anyone to ever win mvp was "Going for it" rather than just being great players. What kind of player doesn't "go for it"?

I mean, Kareem easily can. You could still argue Kareem is ahead of Lebron all-time.

Kareem has:
6 MVPS
15 All-NBA teams
11 All-Defense
38,387 points

Now I know you are going to respond by changing the goal posts. But your original post that I am replying to is wrong.

But it can happen that a player can take the foot off the pedal after midseason to focus in the play-offs. In this case, LeBron's original plan was (and is) to take it easy during regular season and sit out games now and then. However, if he continues to have a clear shot at the MVP, he will put the effort to win the trophy.

I like LeBron but I agree with you. Kareem's legacy is the most rounded of all-time, more so if you include his NCAA legacy.

Not when you consider that 14 out of LeBron's All-NBA teams are 1st teams compared to Kareem's 9.

He most definitely is. He probably senses given his age that it's now or never for #5.

This is mostly about winning games. James wants the MVP award like all players do but it's not his top priority or else he wouldn't always be trying to bring more great players on his team and he would instead do things like leading the league in scoring and averaging triple-doubles.

He's trying to get the 1st seed.

I imagine that by May/June, Staples Center will have fans back in it in some capacity and homecourt advantage throughout the playoffs will help the Laker's main issue which is energy.

But winning the MVP in the process doesn't hurt.
