“Lillard shot 1 of 5 in the 4th, where he was matched up w/ Simmons. Simmons held him to 3 of 9 (33% FG) during the entire game. “

“Portland as a whole, shot 6 of 19 (31% FG) when defended by Simmons. He had 5 deflections, 1 STL, 1 BLK.”

When Ben Simmons guards players who currently average over 20+ ppg for the season, he has held them to a combined 27% shooting from the floor and 23% from 3. The lowest averages for any on ball defender since 2013 (Tony Allen). Over the last 2 seasons no defender has posted better defensive rating numbers vs the leagues best scorers.

PER ESPN Stats and Analysis

Looking like another first team all defense for Ben.

One reason I’ve always let his shooting reluctance slide. Maybe you don’t win these days without shooting but you don’t win without defense either.

Who'd have ever thought that guy we watched at LSU would turn out to be the best defensive player in the league and an offensive liability?

He's basically Tony Allen with Lebron James' body. Passes like Lebron too

He has always been a top defender but it doesn't get mentioned much because people like to get on his case for not shooting jumpers.

I have mixed feelings about his shooting. Obviously you want a perimeter player to be a threat from the perimeter in this era. On the other hand I like the fact that he doesn't take bad shots.

I actually prefer this to what Giannis is doing, trying year after year to become a 3 pt shooter. Dude, it isn't going to happen.

Shame he still can't shoot to save his life :(
