View Full Version : What if Lebron was not a great passer?

How does his career and ATG ranking look like? If Lebron is a Joe Johnson level passer for example, good but not exceptional vision, accuracy, willingness, creativity etc. I think if he didn't have his passing ability he would have been worse than Melo.

He'd be Michael Jordan with a three point shot.

Id say Dominique Wilkins tier. Hes still physically dominant and has an ok shot, defence + rebounding. But the passing is what truly makes the difference and gets him in top 3 with 4 rings.

Nash, CP3, Mark Jackson, KJ - basically any elite point guard - is a better passer than lebron

The stats and eye test prove this

The only reason lebron has 4 rings is the "big 3" super-team-hopping, and then being a statistical pippen to AD

Julius Erving. So still a top 10-15 all time player

LeBron is still a GOAT level athlete and scorer so he would be an atg regardless if he was an elite playmaker or not

If LeBron wasn't a good passer he'd take the focus and energy he put into that and probably would've put it into scoring. He'd have 15 scoring titles by now.

Lebron has small hands and isn't anywhere near the shot-maker that Dr. J was

Lebron simply has a better handle than Dr. J, which is offset by far weaker pure scoring ability

If LeBron was not a great passer he'd be an even better scorer. He would've already surpassed Kareem by now.

This is what Lebron would look like if he only focused on scoring

https://youtu.be/rN17J-KMWnY

I was low balling like crazy with the DR J comparison and ignoring the fact that Lebron without playmaking would be more aggressive as a scorer which we saw in Miami days where he took a backseat from playmaking and played as a traditional small forward

^^^^ the goat had that look every game - you got a taste of MJ

I watched the first quarter of that game and then turned it off because lebron was looking like Michael... And Michael never lost when he had half the star help that lebron had in that game.

Unfortunately, lebron lacks the mentality needed to be an assassin like that every game, so he plays at a much lower level than he played that night or MJ

So basically a score first LeBron?:lol

Dude would already be the all time leading scorer along with scoring titles almost every year. Jesus Christ it's scary to even think about:eek:

So the passing holds him back

And MJ is therefore far superior

Btw, lebron is bad at generating assists because he has low assist teams and he isn't an assist target (teammates can't assist him because he dominates the ball)

It's unfortunate because forwards are normally big assist targets - so lebron turns a typically high-assisted position into a low-assisted one, thereby lowering the assist capacity of the team

I think he became a different player. Maybe bulk up and become a legit PF like Zion where he could make simpler passes from the post.

Think about all of the possessions LeBron used to rack up his assists and instead he used those on scoring.

He'd have 45,000 points already.

Nothing really changes - he'd still be GOAT.

45k points would be a 35 ppg career average, or 5 more than Jordan

That player would be far superior to the actual lebron.. it's obvious

What you guys don’t realize is the reason Lebron scores and gets assists is because he is so ball dominant. Lebron cannot score easily without pounding that ball. He’s not like Klay who needs very few dribbles. So the assists and even points come as a result of being so ball dominant already. If he became a score first, I doubt his points would go up significantly. They’d be around the same but his percentage would be lower. Again, we’re assuming he isn’t gonna just pound that ball and dribble, dribble. Many times when Lebron gets a lot of assists, his team is still low in assists.

The real question is how much would Lebron score if he played hard defense every night such as Jordan?

And Jordan carried 6 teams to the Finals with literally the biggest load anyone has ever had

He'd be Michael Jordan with a three point shot.

This. He would regress basketball wise into whatever Michael Jordan is.

He would turn into an inferior player but still averages 33 ppg.
