We keep hearing about certain stars "carrying" a team so let's make a list of superstars that have carried teams and compare their carrying jobs. But I'm not interested in narratives. I want to see numbers, especially those that highlight the difference the player makes in terms of wins.

Pick a superstar and the season(s) you think they had their greatest carry job(s). Let's limit it to seasons you think are historically among the best.

Let's put it in the format of

Superstar - Season - Regular Season Wins Record - Playoffs Round Reached - Previous Season Team Record - Previous Season Team Rank

So for example:

Kobe Bryant 2005-2006 45-37 First Round (3-4 loss to Suns) 34-48 21st-22nd

Go!

Lebron and Wade both in 2009. That Heat roster was an absolute joke.

The only worst roster for a superstar that I've personally seen is Mcgrady in 03. They only went .500 though

Iverson 2001. Cast could not have been worse than that.

LeBron 2018 - GOAT carryjob

Hakeem 94

There are others but they didn't actually get their team very far into the playoffs so it's hard to count those

In no way is that cast worse than what Mcgrady had in 2003. They were aging but still had smart, tough old-school ballers. Particularly on defense to cover up Iverson.

Theo Ratliff and Dikembe were both all-stars that year. Even though I know they got Dikembe break.

Dwyane Wade 2008-2009 43-39 First Round (3-4 loss to Hawks) 15-67 30th

Tracy McGrady 2002-2003 41-41 First Round (3-4 loss to Pistons) 46-36 12th

It could.

For one it could've lacked the defensive player of the year and the sixth man of the year. Not to mention the coach of the year.

2000 shaq and 2019 kawhi if you go by PPG and win shares (+20 and +21).

1994 Hakeem and 2019 kawhi if you go by having a roster without any top draft picks or former MVP candidates.

Go look up Mutumbo's metrics in that playoff run. He was a beast. The Sixers weren't carried by Iverson, they were carried by their elite defense which heavily outranked their offense.
