I think Mike was better. Bird may have had the higher peak. No, it's just pure randomness that Jordan lost 3 times in the first round with a 1-9 record, and then mysteriously suddenly started winning as soon as the combination of Pippen entering his prime and Lakers/Celtics/Pistons becoming washed occured.

You can definitely see why Jordan has a tendency towards degenerate gambling. Luck has followed him his whole life.
