Dumb 33mil/2 season for a borderline washed up player. Cardinals aren't close to being a Super Bowl team especially in the stacked NFC west with a healthy 49ers next season.

Yup, he is a bit overpaid for sure, too much for a guy that has a huge injury history, idk why he doesn't go to somewhere like Bills, Steelers, Rams/49ers getting stronger next yr.

Washed up?? Nah, he is still great but can't stay healthy. Obviously went there to retire - I don't think he is serious about winning anymore. He just wants to retire in peace in good weather and ride into the sunset loaded with cash after one last ride.

Washed up? He was the most doubled player in the NFL last year.

His prime years are behind him, he's never going to be ahead of the pack like he was back then but he's still a great player. I wanted him on the Colts for this money

No, he is too injury-prone. We have too many other big needs to pay an injury-prone player $16m/yr on the tail-end of his career.

We need a LT, edge, WR, and CB. I would either sign Villaneuve from Pitt or the tackle from Baltimore or draft a LT with 1st round. We will need to sign a #1 WR like Robinson from Chicago, which will be costly but necessary with TY leaving for more money. We still need to find a CB or pay Xavier Rhodes what he wants to bring him back. We still have to re-sign Leonard. The $43mill will add up quickly.

Our best bet might be to draft a LT and edge in first 2 rounds to save money thanks to rookie contracts, re-sign Leonard, sign a #1 WR, and re-sign Rhodes.

Leonard isn't a free agent this year.

Ballard could have converted Buckners deal and created enough cap room to sign Watt and retain all of our current time available cap room.

Watt can play edge. Edge on normal down and distances and kick inside on passing downs with Buckner. Would have been potent.

Arizona now has a big time pass rush. They have potentially three guys with 10+ sack potential, with two of them having 15 sack potential in Jones and Reddick.

The tackle from Baltimore isn't a free agent either. He wants out via a trade. He has two years remaining on his rookie deal. He won't be a free agent until 2023

Then there is also the probowl LT from 49ers. Forgot his name

I didn't realize Leonard had one more year. We have time but probably should begin negotiating right now.

I would rather bring Justin Houston back on hometown deal than throw the book at Watt. I think JJ has a history of injuries that could be a problem as he ages.

We could spend for a top-end WR more so like Robinson if possible. We already have an elite defense to keep spending big bucks there. There surely must be other edge we can get for cheaper than JJ.

Our defense isn't elite. Did you see the Pitt game? Titans game? Disgusting.

We were 24th in yards (385.7), 31st in pass (313.3), t-22 in scoring (26.4) in the second half of the season. That's not elite defense whatsoever.

Stop it. We have a top 10 defense. Don't be cherry picking.

An entire half of a season isn't cherry picking. They regressed heavily to the point where they were a bad overall unit as a defense as the season wore on. That's a fact.

Probably because no contender teams were willing to pay him anything close to 33m/2yr

Where are you getting that?

From what I am seeing, Watt was doubled on about ~30% of snaps last year... which is less often than ~30 other rushers, and less than half as often as the player I am seeing reported as the #1 most doubled player - Aaron Donald (who was doubled on ~70% of snaps)

We offered him more money. I don't know if we're contenders but we are close.

Next gen stats for Watts double team being most in league. Rotoworld also reported it as well after he signed with Cards

Yall are closer to being contenders than the cardinals (IMO)

Yeah whats your source tho? I can see the claims that Watt was doubled most in the league when I google him, but they all say that he was doubled on just ~30% of snaps, which is not even close to being a high enough rate to be #1 most doubled in the league.

No, that initial report was not correct

The NBA equivalent would be John Wall signing a 2/50 mil deal with the Mavs.
