If Durant wins his 3rd finals MVP this year. He's going to be rank higher than Kobe who's currently ranked at 12th.

3 finals mvp is better than 2 finals mvp. KD is going to get the Hakeem Olajuwon treatment once his playing career is over.

So...?

What's that got to do with passing Kobe?

KD is surely not making top 10. He followed Lebron's blueprint and took it to another level. Wrt Kobe, he's not surpassing Kobe. Kobe sticks around at 10-12th best, so below that would be KD's ceiling.

True, KD never blackmailed his way to 56 win Spurs on draft or begged to be traded mid contract publicly.

Instead he signed wise contracts and was able to control his destiny however.

Legal does not always mean right. You can get away with something but it can still be a snake move.

Eh.

It's whatever. Like I don't think you should rank players like that anyway. But I don't think KD will get the respect even though his play could be on the similar lvl or a bit better. Him going to the GSW and him having a great team with the Nets might have fans just dismiss him in these topics. I love watching him play, but unless he great story behind his rings, I don't know if he's gonn'a get that respect.

It's kind'a like how LeBron when he went to Miami Heat. Ppl were ready to dismiss whatever his accomplishments were even though he was a great player in his own right. Wade got hurt and regress every year after 11, so it seemed impressive.

Curry wasn't hurt that bad and was in his prime. Now he has Kyrie and Harden. While Kobe did have Shaq, ppl rated that differently because how it was constructed and Kobe grew into a star than teaming up. It just happened.

You could argue it may not be fair, but I don't think fans, including hardcore fans, will give KD that respect.

Right, but handcuffing yourself to shit contracts means loyalty.

Sorry can't sign this 1 and 1 deal, rather go with good ole 8yr throw away the key sucker contract because some 90's fanboy won't respect meh :(

KD could have gotten a hefty contract somewhere else. Instead, he went to the least place he should have gone to, their 73-win rival that they nearly beat anyway. It seems like to you KD would have been a peasant elsewhere and the only fair choice was GSW, lol. I am a fan of 90s as I am other eras of basketball.

You're trying to support KD for the supposedly smart business decision for himself and yet KD himself says those rings were empty. They weren't as fulfilling as he thought they would be. And now a lot of fans hate him for that move and won't give him credit. Where did that "smart" move lead him then?

Context... like Lebron watering down the east by getting Bosh to leave Raptors, Ray Allen to leave the Celtics and teaming up with rigged champion Wade?

True, he put a halt to the looming title threat that was Toronto during the Bosh era, where they had more lottery seasons than playoff wins during his Raptors tenure. And Allen signing on 2 years later was his decision, regardless of the shot he hit you're grasping at straws if you're seriously complaining about a 37 year old role player joining the team. And you invalidate your last point by insinuating Wade was only capable of winning due to rigging :lol

> thinks todays stars jump on the best available price

> muh 90's mentality
> "giannis to knicks bc big market and mecca me tinks"

Ah the luxury of modern salary cap and NBPA evolution, owners ability to sign multiple stars instead of bending over players like

1 :oldlol: _______$33,140,000
2 Toni Kukoc $4,560,000
3 Ron Harper $4,560,000
4 Dennis Rodman $4,500,000
5 Luc Longley $3,184,900
6 Scottie Pippen $2,775,000
7 Bill Wennington $1,800,000
8 Scott Burrell $1,430,000
9 Randy Brown $1,260,000
10 Dickey Simpkins $1,235,000
11 Robert Parish $1,150,000
12 Jason Caffey $850,920
13 Steve Kerr $750,000
14 David Vaughn $693,840
15 Keith Booth $597,600
16 Jud Buechler $500,000
17 Joe Kleine $272,250
18 Rusty LaRue *$242,000

MJ's Salary = 33 Mill
The rest of the team's combined salary = 30.36 Mill
1997 NBA Salary Cap = 24.3m

Durant is already better than Kobe. Kobe got it done by being a volume shooter. I'd much rather have the offensive efficiency of Durant, and I'm a Lakers fan. He's a better shooter (especially from three point land), and better rebounder, while only being slightly behind in assists. His game should also age better because it relies less on athleticism.

KD is marginally better than Harden as the #1 guy in the playoffs, and neither are close to Kobe. Any all-time great would look unstoppable on a team that won 73 games without them. Stop basing KD's career around two years in GS and ignoring the rest of his lackluster career.

And even now how much can we really take away from him winning a title with Harden & Kyrie

Not much. He will end his career without us really knowing if he could lead a nonstacked team to the finals. But yeah, smart business moves by KD right?

Whats with lebron stans and laughable threads? First of all, that 12th rank is not official. 2nd, i don't remember Kobe jumping to Miami or San antonio after the 2005 season. 3rd, Defensively, not at the same level at all
4th, after playing with harden, westbrook, curry and klay, shouldn't you have more rings than Kobe with Gasol?

Yeah because playing with Gasol is comparable to playing with a team that won 73 games featuring the 2x reigning MVP.

What's next? Dirk couldn't win without Jason Terry? F*ck outta here. :oldlol:

Efficiency difference between the two is overstated due to different eras. Kobe was actually at or above league average TS% his entire career until he tore his Achilles iirc. If you think prime Kobe in this era isn’t putting up a 60+ TS%...you really think Trae Young is a better scorer than prime Kobe?

I started a topic saying this YEARS ago. Kobe Durant does EVERYTHING Kobe does, in a 7 foot body, and he can guard positions 1 through 5

I actually disagree - Kobe is more skilled and accomplished more than Durant. Durant might have an impressive offensive arsenal, but it's not as great as Kobe's, and Kobe's the better defensive player.
