I didn't grow up watching 80s but I did watch a lot of 90s. And even the early 2000s was good. It was even good up until around 2010, when Lebron started the super teams. Then the game started to change. The players changed and became all about buddying up and getting into twitter.
Gosh, I miss the old NBA theme song. We used to have exciting stars like Shaq and Allen Iverson. In the 90s we had Jordan. I mean seriously, do we have anyone in the game right now that's even close to comparable to Shaq? And before Shaq hit his prime, we had so many hall of fame centers in the game like David Robinson, Patrick Ewing and Hakeem.
Every team had stars. When you played NBA Jam at the arcade, every team had icons. Now, you don't have that many stars. Maybe a handful. Every year all these players that make the all star team are names you have never heard of. And their names aren't even as catchy. Back then, you had so many catchy names like Sprewell, Iverson, Rodman, Pippen, Barkley, Shaq..
You had guys that could actually play a position instead of guys now that don't even have a position. At point guard you had guys like Jason Kidd, Gary Payton, Steve Nash, and John Stockton. These guys were specialists. At center you had Shaq, Mourning, Hakeem, David Robinson and Ewing. At power forward you had Garnett, Duncan, Malone, and later on guys like Gasol. Nowadays you mostly have guys that run and play the wing. It's not exciting.
I guess we should feel very lucky, those of us that got to watch real basketball. We got to watch some of the best and most exciting players. They were real players, passionate about the game. They didn't just play to impress people on twitter.

Yep...I miss real competition...when players weren't easy path bitches, weren't pvssy millennials, and were allowed to play defense too.
Also when play was interesting...not just weak 3 jacking

Man....every decade or so you always get ppl who get nostalgic. Ppl in the late 90s and early 00s were complaining big time about b-ball. Too much iso. They missed the 80s. There were a bunch of articles talking about how teams and stars were playing too selfishly and not enough team ball. Some ppl wrote articles telling them to get over it. There will never be another Magic or Bird. Allen Iverson is just AI.
Although ppl hold on to Kobe is MJ. But there was a lot of MJ clones.
Now you have ppl who miss how the 00s were played.
This is how you know it's really nostalgia. It's a cycle dude. In another 10 or so years from now, this same exact thread will be made in about 2030 or so, talking about the golden era of the 2010s and early 2020s. How superteams brought excitement and how stars like LeBron, KD, Curry, and etc were different.
With all that said, I do miss it. I don't like how games are a shoot out right now. I want more variation teams. You kind'a have it with some top teams, but not nearly as much imo from from the early 00s top teams.
Lakers played the triangle with Shaq and Kobe. The beautiful offense of the Kings. The slow and grind pace of the Spurs. Dallas stretch 4 of Dirk, with Nash and Michael Finely. Portland's teamplay. Utah's pick and roll offense. 76ers, A.I and the drama. KG carrying his team. Ray Allen shooting.
The biggest thing that I missed is that teams would try to use their stars or team strength as a basis for their offense or have different systems to succeed. Nowadays, it's seems like the variation of the offense isn't there. The 00s had ugly offense for the most part and the defense was on point. Like if you were gonn'a score, you were gonn'a have to earn it. But what I miss the most was the variety and attitude. There was less flopping too.
But the early 90s and 80s was similar with the variation. Lakers was different from the Celts how they played. 76ers was different. Bulls was different. Pistons. It's cool to check them out.

shaq, Kobe, Malone, Payton wasn't a superteam as well? I am really confused here.

Yeah I miss watching slow 7 foot giants with their back to the basket. I miss guards with mediocre range play with their back to the basket. I miss guys with no handles. I miss the court being clogged with no spacing. I miss mauling and grabbing on every play and scores like 85-91. Ball dominant points looking to set guys up. Definitely miss that. Miss those teams with only two offensive threats. Hate the way everyone has the green light now.
Nah the game today is way way better. Wide open and all about skill.

Nope.
The 90s/early 2000s NBA was boring as hell. Too many post-ups/too much midrange chucking is not entertaining at all.
In the last 10 years I have watched more games than in the first 30 years of my life.

There are things i miss. The rivalries back then were very real and frequently bitter. Now guys jump around so much in free agency there arent really rivalries any more.
The modern NBA was really born when Bird and Magic came into the league. At that time the Finals weren't even televised live. :oldlol:
Their rivalry was really epic.

Of course i miss it. This is the NBA on NBC!!!!. Early 2000s was the bomb. It had everything
Highlights were guaranteed every night in each category
You could count on sick contest dunks in game and posters almost every night provided by Kobe, Vince, Tracy, J-Rich, Stromile, Desmond, Ricky D
Sick passes by J Will, Kidd, Nash
And1 style ankle breakers by A.I, francis, Baron, Wade and Skipp
You stayed all 50 minutes waiting for the sports center top 10 to see what Vince did
It had brawls. Pistons/Pacers, Nate vs Jr smith
Killer dunk contest: 2000, 2003, 2005
Killer allstars: 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004
The best rookie challenge: 2004
Epic 3 point contest between Dirk, Ray and Peja
We had practice. The dress code, the rape case, Shaq vs kobe drama, birth of the black mamba, the backboard dunk and Nba 2k5 at $19 dollars.
Whoever says early 2000s wasn't cool is a younging or straight retarded

Bad mouthing the 2001 and 2003 allstar games. As Casual fan as it gets. Lebron gets drafted and all of a sudden allstar games rock lol. Seems like this guy doesn't like highlight reel dunks and watching 50 attempts from 3 is enough to satisfy him. He should switch to the wnba lol

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I love today's game and I love the 90s game, the 2000s, the 80s....I'm a basketball fan. Each era has its own charm for sure. But it's really hard to pick one over another for me. One thing you guys aren't seeing is this is a transitional era. The 3 point boon has arrived and now the clock is ticking and eventually the minds of the game will change things to combat it better from a defensive perspective, and then the process will repeat. In sports every revolution is followed by evolution.

They better do something. Basketball cannot just be about chucking 3s. It would be one thing if the defenses neutralized it. But it's a one way street.
I like to see a variety of moves. Defense, mid range, post ups, slashing, and of course some 3s. In the 2000s, the balance was good. You were lucky if you had a guy like Peja or Ray Allen. Now, every team has players that shoot more 3s than those guys. You can't allow Harden to do that double step back move. There needs to be a balance soon.

It was curry's fault that he did nothing aside from chucking a lot of 3s that the league had to follow his footsteps.

The Kings getting screwed in the 2002 WCF was the beginning of the end. That was an exciting team and they were good for 2 more seasons after that but never the same. Webber got hurt in 2003, and KG wolves were on a tear in 2004. The Spurs being the dominant team after the Lakers run really hurt the league. If the game wasn't rigged we could have seen a Warriors style offense win a title in 2002 or the Suns in 2007. But we never did. Rasheed Wallace said Stein flavored the Spurs to get the more international appeal.
I also wish there wasn't chicken sh** bias calls in the last Super Bowl. The Chiefs would have kept it close otherwise. How does getting Brady another ring in a fair weather sports town help build the league for years to come. If anything flavoring the Chiefs would have helped if Mahomes had 2 rings and one win over Brady he could catch up with Brady before he retires. But now the gap can't be crossed.

Nowadays, there are players of all sizes, with different types of skillsets, and with different types of characters.
Fistfights have no place in basketball (those have nothing to do with competitive spirit).
