In a massive what if that might have changed the 2010's landscape drastically I look at the potential consequences for Okc and the Nba if this trade had actually gone through.
consequence 1 is that without Chandler and the defence that he anchored in Dallas it means that they don’t win the NBA Title denying Dirk his ring instead now with Chandler on Okc in 2011 it means that only with an average age of 23.7, a young Thunder team makes the finals in 2011 to go up against up the Heat.
Where they then lose to the Heat in 6 games with Wade getting his second finals Mvp to go along with his second ring making the Kobe vs Wade debates for second greatest SG a lot more interesting.
Also, the consequences of the Heat's title win in 2011 are massive.
One is that without the pain and humiliation of losing in the 2011 finals to Dallas Lebron never becomes the same player that we saw in the years to follow.
The second is maybe we get that final shot of the young big three embracing each other a full year early and have them return a year wiser in 2012. Maybe an earlier Finals appearance and loss in 2011 makes them far stronger in the years to come.
The third is that in the 2011-2012 season with the pain of losing in the 2011 finals to Miami fueling the Thunder on they make it back to the finals the next year for a rematch with the Heat looking to get their long-awaited revenge on them.
And now with a loaded team around MVP runner-up Durant and All-NBA sidekick Westbrook, complemented by fellow starters Chandler (that year's DPOY), Ibaka (All-Defense First Team), and Sefolosha. A bench rotation of Harden (Sixth Man of the Year), old man Derek Fisher (still capable of the biggest shot in a playoff series), Maynor, Collison (rebounder/chemist) and rookie Reggie Jackson.
They beat the Heat in six games in the 2012 finals as without Perkins who was a negative presence for Okc that entire series once the Heat went small with Bosh at the 5.
Now Okc has Chandler to match up better against the Heat's line up with Bosh at the 5 which gets them the finals win and Durant's first ring and finals Mvp over Lebron.
It's strange how one cancelled trade involving Chandler might have altered NBA history. As If the trade is cleared, we look at Dirk in an entirely different way. Duncan, Kobe and LeBron are either elevated or demoted from pantheon status. And those Thunder kids – KD, Russ, Harden, Ibaka along with Chandler – might just have climbed the mountain together in 2012 and again in the years that followed.
