I think he said a shitty thing and it potentially signals he has bigoted views (best case scenario is he was just trying to be edgy), but even in that case he is still only 30 and has plenty of time to adopt more tolerant views. I think never giving him the opportunity to be a good person after this would be foolish but some people will do it for sure. Cancel culture really flies in the face of my idea of redemption, although I definitely think there are things that should be criticized heavily. The group of dudes that I get together and play soccer with come from all walks of life. A handful of them semi-pro and former d1 players. It's a competitive environment. The only people who get the "i dont want to be on this guy's team" treatment are the people who wont even try. Nobody cares who shows up wearing a maga hat or keeps a facemask on during the game. We goof on each other about it and drink in the parking lot afterwards.

I think this issue is near and dear to the hearts of many of the players on that team.



On the other hand folks, worrying about slurs is DUMB. It is a waste of time. The reason there is conflict between races in the US all comes down to inequalities in capital ownership. The people who own shit WANT the conflict to be over social interactions (like language policing) instead of being over economics, because win or lose their position is secure.

Young well-off "leftists" melting down over racist language are doing more harm than good to the cause of equality (imo). It's no coincidence that the media started focusing heavily on racism after the Occupy Wall Street protests ~2010. They wanted to shift the front of the conflict away from class.

I play a decent amount of COD Warzone and Apex usually lobbied in random squads. $80 cheap headset just like the next loser. In span of 2-3 years on PS4/PC i've maybe heard a hard R dropped twice, tops. Some 12yo death feed in rage that's abt it.
