BALTIMORE (WBFF) - Calls are mounting for a City School to be investigated and shut down immediately. This, after an alarming Project Baltimore investigation found hundreds of students are failing at the west Baltimore high school.

On Monday, Project Baltimore reported on Tiffany France’s son. In his four years at Augusta Fells Savage Institute of Visual Design, he passed three classes and earned a grade point average of 0.13. Yet, his transcripts show his class rank is 62 of 120, meaning 58 students, just in his grade, have a 0.13 GPA or lower.

The former principal is under investigation but still being paid. So that's nearly 400k in salary just for the principal position. The crazy thing there are still 10 schools in Maryland ranked worse than this school in performance. But this school is so bad that it ranks much much worse than than the worst hicktown high school in West Virginia that spends less than $6000 per student versus this school.

0.13 GPA means the students don't give a shit either though. I mean we've all come across crap teachers and even professors and have learned to self-teach. But 0.13 GPA means failure on both ends.

Also, LOL @ the Maryland inspector of education now asking parents to come forward once it's made the news.

I hope the school made aware to the parents how the kids were performing -- but then again this is 2021. I mean I hear my friends get calls from their schools when there's an assignment due a certain date. And report cards can be seen digitally and you dont have to worry about the kids not bringing them home for the parents to see and sign like they use to.

So really, the mother should've known better or was ignorant. Still not an excuse for the massive failure of what Maryland's education system is though.

Whites, Asian and Latinos combine for less than 3% of student body. This is clearly racism. If students don't get the same grades as Asians and Whites, it's racism. If they don't make the same income as adults vs Asians and Whites it's clearly racism. And if they don't live in neighborhoods as safe as Asians and whites it's racism. Just typing this out has made me want to apologize for my straight white male privilege by opening up the front door and screaming it out loud so my neighbors could hear(if I had any close enough).

This isn't a run down old school with little funding either. It was built in 2004 and ranks slightly above the Maryland average for funding per student, and way over the national average.

BALTIMORE (WBFF) – Failing class after class and a chronic late or absent issue isn’t keeping one Baltimore City Public School student from being promoted to the next grade and it has her family outraged and frustrated. Samuel Harkless is responsible for his niece who is a senior at Digital Harbor High School. He said she has had a history of showing up late to school, or skipping altogether, for years. But the issues Harkless raised with FOX45 News Wednesday goes beyond chronic tardiness: the performance in the classroom wasn’t stopping her from moving from grade to grade. Harkless said his niece moved from the NACA II school after it closed and enrolled at Digital Harbor High School.

“I said ‘she shouldn’t’ be promoted’,” Harkless said. “And the principal said ‘well, the system basically said she had enough credits, so we just aren’t going to fight it.”
FOX45 News reached asked Digital Harbor High School Principal Swinton Buck for an interview, demanding answers about Harkless’ niece and the potential for other students in similar situations. Buck declined to answer.

The report cards show Harkless’ niece ended her junior year with a 1.2 GPA, despite failing multiple classes. The latest progress report from her senior year at Digital Harbor High School shows more failing classes.

“She doesn’t go. So how is she passing? This ought to be illegal,” Harkless said. “She’s just being passed through the system.”

“I don’t know about white kids, but I know about Blacks. And I don’t like what I’m seeing. It’s a pattern. I don’t like how they are just being pushed through the system,” Harkless said. “if you can’t read or write, how you going to get a job? What are you going to do? I’m frustrated.”

That's crazy...but you know a lot of this falls on the parents. Basically children's attitudes towards school and learning are set in their brain by 2nd or 3rd grade. That can be turned around with LOTS of work but it just isn't feasible in most cases. If the system doesn't get to children early, they are pretty much fvcked so it should be up the the parents to give them that push
