What's going on.

Was watching the scrimmage aka. game with no crowd yesterday and Zingis doesn't look very good.

Slow, no physicality and doesn't seem energised.

Mavs overall are a very poorly constructed team.

I don't think Doncic wants to play with someone like Zingis, he essentially wants Dwight Powell, but better. A young Blake Griffin would be the perfect match for Luka.

Why keep the charade going?

Luka is a few playoff losses away from letting go of his ego and embracing delegating responsibility.

Which teams could benefit from Zingis? Spurs? Charlotte?

Lol he’s averaging 20.7 PPG in 30.2 MPG (24.7 per 36) on 59.0 TS% he must look pretty good on offense with those numbers.

I think I get the OP's point. KP isn't good enough to be the #2 option unless you have an awesome defensive team.

That said, KP is in the "really good" category already and it's likely going to be impossible to trade up to the "great" class. It's not like the Giannis/Davis/Embiid/Jokic guys are exactly available.

Mavs are probably better off just hunting for a good PG to maximize KP's output and not rely on Luka to create everything on the perimeter. They should look to the Hornets or Cavs who have too many PGs to make a trade.

If I were the Mavs, I would keep:

Luka
Kristaps
Hardaway Jr
Richardson
Brunson
Marjanovic
Kleber
Finney-Smith

And make moves down roster.
With an emphasis on great help defenders who block shots very well for their position, and get lots of weak side steals, and run the floor & finish well.

Porzingis's brothers are cancer.

As a Knicks fan, I am sure of that statement even though it wasn't made by me.

I think both KP and Doncic right now would rather be on worse teams, but not have to worry about sharing the spotlight.

All this hype about what a “unicorn” this guy was for being a 7 footer with a jumper :facepalm

This is not a reinvention of big men. This is Mel Counts 2.0 - which is nice for modern basketball rules yes, but at the end of the day is still neither new nor impactful enough to anchor a team.

Giannis (the most overrated NBA player of all time) doesn't belong in the convo with those other dudes.

might need to add some color to Mavs roster

In the Regular season he does.

I think he can be a franchise player if healthy, but he needs to be paired with a physically strong bigman, to make up for his defensive and offensive lacks.

Disagree completely, especially when you frame it as KP vs Giannis and how either would impact the Mavs.

Giannis' defense runs laps around KP's. That alone would make the Mavs more dangerous. Even if you can only pencil him in for low 20s scoring in the playoffs, he would transform that team on the other end of the floor, rebound way better, and give a big that will pass a lot better than KP.

They have plenty of color.

If anything they need less.

The perfect team for Zingis would be someone who will let him shoot 30 times a game and play hard defense.

Utah, Boston or Indiana would fit.

Well, KP wouldn't belong on that list either... Joker and Embiid are superstars

I don't think KP can carry an offense and be the go to scorer even in the perfect scenario surrounded by 3-D players and paired with a pure PG, even if health wasn't a factor. But he's a good enough #2 if used right.

I think he's an ideal #3

John Collins in replace of / or added while keeping KP would be great for the Mavs. Someone who's aggressive and going draw in the defense.

With KP the stat line can be impressive but it's always by letting the defense off the hook with outside threes and the occasional post up.
