Based on fraudulent information & lies presented by Bush administration. It wasn't just overnight but slowly and methodically built-up case over 2yrs based on lies. Bush administration wanted to invade Iraq before 9/11 attacks, and in fact the Republican party campaigned in 2000 to forcefully remove Hussein and people like Cheney/Rumsfeld wanted to invade Iraq before they ever took office in official capacity. 9/11 just sped up the timeline and gave them a pretense they had been looking for the whole time to invade Iraq.

So yes, he got away with a war that was unnecessary, resulted in many deaths, cost us a few trillion dollars, and destabilized the region even more. All because lil Georgie wanted to finish what his CIA daddy had started in 1990.
