In the article, the Vatican stressed the “fundamental and decisive distinction” between gay individuals and gay unions, noting that “the negative judgment on the blessing of unions of persons of the same sex does not imply a judgment on persons.”
But it explained the rationale for forbidding a blessing of such unions, noting that any union that involves sexual activity outside of marriage cannot be blessed because it is not in a state of grace, or “ordered to both receive and express the good that is pronounced and given by the blessing.”

Sister Simone Campbell, executive director of the U.S.-based NETWORK Lobby for Catholic Social Justice and an advocate for greater LGBTQ inclusion in the church, said she was relieved the Vatican statement wasn’t worse.
She said she interpreted the statement as saying, “You can bless the individuals (in a same-sex union), you just can’t bless the contract.”
“So it’s possible you could have a ritual where the individuals get blessed to be their committed selves.”
Religion is a drug.

I disagree with the Pope on this one.

A religion is a group of people who agree on a bunch of random beliefs and rules. If they don't allow 2 people of the same sex to be "married" in the context of their particular religion, it is totally up to them. Who cares? Homosexuals should find a religion which allows them to get married: Problem solved.
The Pope is not doing anything controversial here.

This. Once again the Church is ruling against the majority of its members. Most Catholics support same sex marriage and importantly letting priests marry and allowing women priests. You can pretty much bet that if women had any power in the Church the massive sex abuse scandal either would never have happened or would have been nipped in the bud rather quickly.
I'm not surprised that the Church is reluctant to progress with the times. I think they only recently admitted that excommunicating Galileo for claiming that the Earth wasn't the center of the solar system might have been wrong.
I'm Catholic btw, of the cafeteria variety.

If women had any power in the church, the sex abusing priests would be bravely converting to trans and crying about how they are victims of toxic masculinity and white supremacy... all while diddling even more boys than they are now.

Religions arent supposed to progress with the times, its a "belief" system. The old testament is somewhere around 2.5-3.5k years old, and the most recent bible entries are almost 2k years old.
If you dont feel like the old biblical belief systems are applicable to you in this modern day and age, there are plenty of popular modern religions to put your faith into - like the Qanon belief system, or the church of muzzle loving libtards

He can't marry the kids. That's what this is about. It's actually not hypocritical at all.
They can't be like muhammad and marry a kid.
Im sure some priests would like to marry a kid but they can't.

Total bullshit as usual coming out of your ass. Of course religions can change. You mention the Old Testament, the book of Judaism, the oldest monotheistic religion in the world and guess what? They have reformed denominations that allow women to be rabbis. Go back to Martin Luther FFS.
The workings and mechanisms of the church can certainly evolve over time without changing the basic tenets of belief.

its true that religions can sometimes change, but its quite rare
the reformation wasnt a "change" in christianity ... it was a group that split away from the catholic church (the church of the pope referenced in the OP, the church that you are a member of), and to this day the catholics have rejected every single one of the protestant reforms. FFS its 2021 and women still arent allowed to be priests in your church... when exactly are those changes supposed to come?
