I have a friend I grew up with who moved to China about 15 years ago, and recently I've been emailing with him back and forth. It is absolutely amazing the cultural differences between there and here. My friend lives in Macau which according to him is the most densely populated city in the world. He says in that city they have had 48 total cases of covid, ALL were imported from other cites, and ZERO deaths. He says despite the city having zero deaths, they have 100% of their population wearing masks at all times with complete compliance. AGAIN THAT IS ZERO DEATHS, and everyone in masks, no one arguing about it. If someone flies or drives into the city? That person must quarantine in a hotel room for 3 weeks...no exceptions.

NOW, you could say those people are slaves, or brain washed sheep...and maybe you'd be right about that. But what they didn't do?...they didn't turn covid into a fcking political circus that divided their country in two. Like Maher says here, they are a well oiled machine that is getting shit done and solving problems QUICKLY while we are over here whining about Dr Suess and transforming our leaders into Satanic lizards...we're fcking clowns and we all need to stop the BS...BOTH sides.

China has two distinct advantages over the US that make it more effective at getting things done:

1. Single party so they don't have to worry about getting re-elected, campaiging and all the other BS that comes from being (on the face of it) a liberal democracy. Their country is not split down the middle into two camps who are always bickering and fighting with one another.
2. Less diversity. Over 90% of the population is Chinese Han. The US is much more diverse and so it is much harder to create nationality unity and a sense of common purpose with such a heterogenous population.

Also, Americans have an individualistic (what the Chinese call egoist) mindset whereas the Chinese are more collectivist in their approach. I would describe it as utilitarian, they look at the big picture.

Institutionally they also have a much more recent memory of poverty, failure and national humiliation at the hands of Japan in the 20th century and the west in the 19th whereas Americans have been a global superpower as long as most Americans have been alive and have therefore become complacent and lazy.

Lastly, China's foreign policy is smarter and less hawkish. The US has spent the last 18 years pissing around in the middle East and has pretty much nothing to show for it. In the meantime China has been advancing its interests in Africa, Latin America, the third world with infrastrusture projects.

We burned many bridges over last 4yrs, including with our closest allies like UK, Germany, France, Australia, etc. We will have to gain back their respect because they matter. We can't succeed alone especially against adversaries like China/Russia. I'm not concerned about the mosquitoes of North Korea or Iran. We made mistake last 4yrs by putting lil Donny in control of diplomacy (**trying to fit a square block in a round hole). Since the moron left the White House in January, we are certainly going to build those bridges back with our allies.
