View Full Version : Kevin Durant Responds to Steve Kerr’s Comments About ‘Difficult’ Time Coaching Warrio

Despite the fact that they were very bad (15-50), Warriors coach Steve Kerr says that it was more enjoyable to coach the 2019-20 team than it was to coach the (far better) 2018-19 squad that went 57-25 and made it all the way to the NBA Finals.

Kerr said as much while speaking to Logan Murdock and Raja Bell on The Ringer’s “Real Ones” podcast, with that comment coming in the context of him explaining that the 2018-19 year was the outlier season in terms of enjoyability during GS’s dynasty run.

Kerr didn’t mention KD by name, but Durant did reply pretty quickly with a vague response open to interpretation (though it’s probable that he sees things differently than Kerr). Whether or not Durant is responding to the actual podcast or the quote in the tweet is also open to interpretation, but given that there’s no link in the tweet it’s probable it was a response to the quote:

While Kerr himself points out the obvious by saying that there’s some things fans don’t know about, the most visible sign of internal strife to play out in public came early in that season after Durant and Draymond Green got into a verbal altercation following an overtime loss to the Clippers. In an appearance on ESPN’s First Take, Durant said that he and Green’s situation played a part in him leaving the Bay Area (he signed with the Nets after that season, but you knew that). Green also gave a lengthy response about his relationship with Durant this past April. You can read that here because his candid response is too long to pull.

Steve Kerr said he enjoyed coaching the 2020 Warriors than the 2019 Warriors. and Kevin Durant said it was hilarious.

Kerr's comments are pretty pathetic.

If I were Curry, I would be worried that my coach prefers coaching losing teams than teams that are actually good.

KD has ever right to call out Kerr.

The success or failure of the company you work for doesn’t determine if your work environment is fun or not. Especially when there is no pressure to improve the company because things out of your control hold it back(in Kerrs case....injuries).

Bad young teams full of friends who love being there could easily be more fun than winning with guys who don’t get along and have you in all sorts of drama and answering questions in the media.

In the end these players and coaches are humans. Enjoying your day has more factors than if your team wins a game. Even the psycho competitors don’t always enjoy the teams they win on for one reason or another.

Kobe would have won more with Shaq but he didn’t like playing with him anymore. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t pro victory. Some situations are just joy killers.

What he's likely saying is that Kevin Durant is overly sensitive and intentionally or unintentionally caused strife in the Warriors locker room by the end of their time together. Which would make sense, as Kevin Durant does not seem to be a person that brings joy to those around him. He's in that camp with Kyrie Irving where there seems to be a perpetual stormcloud over their heads.

Judging from afar, the Warriors seemed to have the most fun on the court as a team before Kevin Durant's arrival. Those 2015 and 2016 teams, specifically, were extremely extra with the celebrating.

Well yeah, Draymond was calling Durant a bitch and saying they don't need him. You think that's what championship teams do? Hahahah they also played their best basketball when Durant got injured in the late 2nd round and west finals. Why would you join a team that just eliminated you? No self awareness and pure desperation.

So Kerr is saying Durant is a bitch, and now Durant is acting like one. Go figure.

Completely agree. Kerr's comment makes sense. He was sick with the tension of the 2018-2019 season, and he enjoyed the following season more because there was no pressure and win or lose people were not going to make a big deal of it.

In other words, Kerr is not good at handling pressure.

If I were Curry I would be pissed at having a coach who has that kind of attitude.

They clearly needed him.

They lost in 2016 and Dray went out and begged him to join the GSW.

Durant is the main reason why the GSW became a dynasty.

They won a title in 2015, beat durant in 2016. Lost finals because Draymond got suspended.

It took the Warriors six games to beat CLE (despite the fact that Love didn't play at all and Kyrie only played in 1 game).

The GSW took 7 games to beat OKC.

Also, CLE definitely could have beaten GSW even if Dray had been healthy (CLE was on a serious roll, and Draymond wasn't exactly lighting it up in that series).

Draymond in 2016 finals game 7: 32 points, 15 rebounds, 9 assists

They also got torched in game 5 because they didn't have Draymond's defense due to the suspension.

2015 finals i guess i will give you a pass but they still eliminated Durant's team and that's my point.

Kerr has more Championships than that loser Durant will ever come near to. There's a reason the little bitch didn't fit in. Even with all the talent in the world, you could tell his teammates didn't like him.

It seems like being a human to me. People just have trouble accepting that the rich and famous have normal human issues. Not having fun working with dramatic people is hardly shocking even when that person is really good at his job.

Plenty of bad teams have had good personal chemistry and good teams have hated each other. Being around people you like is more fun than people you don’t....even when the people you don’t like help your professional goals.

Its not hard to grasp. In the end....it’s a group of people you have to damn near live on the road with for like 9 months straight. Enjoyment is a much bigger issue than box scores.

Still, there is no guarantee that the GSW would have won even if Dray had played.

So what if GSW eliminated OKC? Durant wanted a change of scenery, and the GSW obviously needed him. It was a perfect fit for him.

Kerr was a damn role player when he played in the NBA and won with CHI and SAS (as a role player).

As a coach he was lucky to be presented with the opportunity to coach the GSW and coach great players.

Durant fit in very well with the GSW; he is a key reason why they won two titles.

Only punk ass bitches hate KD as far as I am concerned.

KD doesn't seem dramatic to me at all. Just because he and Dray are not butt buddies, doesn't mean that they hate each other lol. Kerr doesn't hate MJ even though MJ socked him in the face for no legitimate reason at all. You clearly are biased against KD.

Any coach should enjoy coaching teams that are better. To me, Kerr sounds like someone who dislikes having more pressure on him.
