Usage Rate or Usage %, has always been one of the worst formulated advanced stat for what it's supposedly trying to say. I always thought it gauges how much a player handles or "uses" the ball as part of each possession. But it's not really calculated like that

((Team’s Total Field Goal Attempts)+0.44*(Team’s Total Free Throw Attempts)+Team’s Total Turnovers))*5*(Player’s Minutes)

basically: arbitrary numbers x team / arbitrary numbers x player / .44 = player with most minutes on the team :lol
