I know OP's not American so he's not very knowledgeable about US politics, but the Democrats have won the popular vote in 7 of the last 8 elections. Besides '04 it's taken fluky sequences of events for the Republicans to win the presidency over the last 30 years. Bush won the closest election in history in an extremely controversial fashion, and Trump won due to an extremely thin margin of 80,000 votes over 3 states despite losing by 3 million votes. Clinton, Obama & Biden all won their elections relatively easily, each by over 5 million votes.

And with the way demographics are trending, barring a radical change it looks like Republicans are going to have a difficult time winning presidential elections going forward. They could very well win in 2024, but if they do it'll most likely be either an absolute nail biter, or take a fluky sequence of events like 2016
