View Full Version : Why/when did political issues change?

Eg. Climate change? Push of alternative energy?

Lgbt? Really there were and are many more important issues.

Women in power

Indigenous rights

Anti slavery

Anti money laundering

All have been considerations, but it seems that their significance has increased substantially in the past twenty years.

Why/how?

Advancement of internet?

I grew up thinking Bill Clinton was a great president and I hated George W Bush. Because of internet, I realized both are awful. And pretty much any groomed politician is awful for that matter. I would rather throw a dart into a crowd of random citizens to pick the next president over electing another government employed/groomed shit head.

You clearly have borderline personality disorder.

And wearing high heels with a 5 inch long skirt and net stockings are how hookers dress.

And nobody explained the joke....... she wore a wig and gave people ice cream bars. How is that a joke?

It's a convergence of factors that, in my opinion are mostly economic -

- the global financial and housing crisis of 2008 which wiped out middle class America
- the "war on terror" which has been a huge waste of human life and resources for virtually no benefit to middle class America*
- Middle class wage stagnation whilst home prices, college costs and the general cost of living has gone up
- Outsourcing of blue collar jobs to overseas
- Widening economic inequality between the top 10% or so of American households and the rest.

* On that note we were storing my wife's cousins deceased sons stuff until today when she came by to pick it up. He was in the US Army and died in 2013 at age 20 in Afghanistan and as I was going through his gear it was gut wrenching - the usual stuff a 20 year old owns - a pair of J's, video games and stuff like that. You bet I'm pissed that this kid died for some scumbags in Washington DC who would never dream of sending their own kids into combat.

Yeah Clinton and Bush were terrible Presidents. Clinton wasted 8 years of a good economy and a stable society and accomplished pretty much nothing in that time other than degrading the office of the President by his predatory behavior toward an intern old enough to be his daughter. He was a draft dodging serial philanderer with no foreign policy knowledge - not Presidential material by any means. Al Gore would have been a better President by far.

Bush was a disaster from beginning to end and only won the Presidency and had credibility due to family name recognition and the team around him, Rove, Rice, Cheney, Powell etc. Like Clinton he was not bona fide Presidential material.

Ignoring the fact Bill Clinton was a child sex trafficking, cocaine trafficker...

What I remember about him was the economy was booming. But then really it was just the fact he had banks give everybody loans that they could never payback. Forget one mortgage, here is a 2nd one.

I was still just a freshman in high school when it was Bush vs Gore. I preferred Bush because Gore was pushing year around school. They all sucked.

That's why the economy was booming by the way.

The government was having banks give loans out to everybody that wanted. It put money into the economy but they could never pay it back. It was an illusion. Then more of the middle class went away and more poor in debt people were created.

Gore was a seriously smart dude from a blue blood family who grew up in DC. Did not agree with the Vietnam war but did not shirk his duty either - went as an Army war correspondent liirc. He would have been a far better President than Bush imo and better too than Clinton - way more integrity/decency.

Clinton is one of the biggest fraud of a President's ever, he coasted on all of the hard work that had been done winning the Cold War in the 80s and the economy being in great shape after the recession of the early 90s. He failed to address the rising problem of militant Islam, did not create a pathway to NATO membership for Russia or at least a redefining of the relationship after all the hard work that the Reagan and Bush administrations did with Gorbachev in bringing about the demise of the USSR. I'm not even sure he actually had an agenda or a vision for the country. What were his core values? What did he believe in?

IMO all of the problems we have faced in the 21st century have stemmed from the wasted years of the 90s and not being in front of it.

Yeah, I don't think he ever would have won. Hanging chad style.

I admittedly never really followed him because of the wanting year round school. Then the global warming movie that my friend wanted me to see. He gets me high in his car of the mall parking ramp..then we go into the movie and I'm like, this sucks.
