bobby jones, cooper, moncrief, rodman, payton, pippen, jordan, battier, ak47, bowen, tony allen etc

since today's league is more offensive friendly & you can no longer handcheck (now exacerbated with freedom of movement) - which defensive wing would have the most impact?

Rodman or Bobby Jones, especially due to small ball. Like if they were already impactful with the amount of bigs that they faced, imagine the small ball?

Bobby Jones would be a better rim protector. Rodman could guard 1-5 and is a rebounding god. Both of them could handle both bigs and small, but with small ball they could potentially be more impactful.

I would go with rodman as well. Both on defensive versatility, intensity, taking the charge, just being annoying, and the rebounds. Not familiar with Bobby Jones.

Rod or pip. Their athleticism and length would help them recover better and they'd both be able to switch and gaurd 1-5 or at least 1-4

i like bobby jones & pippen myself. pippen especially because of the long arms and elite help defense. worm was great, but a lot of his antics wouldn't work now. dude would be thrown out every game lol

The best players in history are the perennial 1st team defenders that were elite offensively, so Payton, Kawhi, Duncan and Hakeem come to mind, with perennial scoring champ Jordan as the kingpin of 2-way players

we aren't talking about the best players in history. some of the names you mentioned aren't wings either. read carefully.

Dr J put up one of the greatest Finals performances of all time vs Bobby Jones. (Not a knock on Bobby Jones by any means, just shows how dominant Dr J was in his prime.)

fair point. jordan also torched rodman in the late 80s (eastern finals) & pippen got schooled by a young kobe. everyone gets got

I had to think twice about this post, because I knew that Dr. J and Bobby Jones played together on the Sixers, but then I remembered the ABA.

I think Pippen since he has the ideal height, length and quickness for today's games.

Rodman and Bobby Jones also possess these qualities but Rodman playing today will be unpredictable to say the least and Bobby Jones had health issues that he can't play too many minutes.

Guys that have elite switchability and can guard multiple positions

Pippen
Rodman
Tony Allen

All those guys would be pretty great on D. Relative to this era of course. It's hard to play defense with the current rules in an absolute sense... Guys would still put up huge number on them at times because it's hard to defend with barely any contact allowed.
