Gobert is who Ayton has been developing towards being more similar to lately. You can tell he studies Goberts defense and tries to be more like him. Ayton has improved his defense drastically since college and has turned into a very good defender. Still has some issues at times, but he's getting pretty close to being up there in that category of top tier defensive bigs. And although it's unfortunate that it doesn't seem that Ayton will probably ever be a truly dominant offensive player, if he can be the next Gobert type defensive DPOY level big then I'll be happy. Defense is crucial, and it's very nice having a good defensive big who can make players think twice trying to go in the paint when he's there. There's no doubt Gobert has a presence on the court even when he's not scoring. And I like that a lot. Love players who don't gotta score to make an impact.

Ayton has been underappreciated by Suns fans just cause he's not the offensive monster we hoped for and we could have got Luka... but the reality is when we have to play Saric or Kaminsky you can see a big drop off in our defense especially against teams with speedy/athletic players. Those 2 don't have the hops, footwork, or speed to keep up with athletic guys like Ayton does.
