View Full Version : Can anyone explain why the Spurs bought out Aldridge?

They're dead center in the playoff race.

Might have even been at #8 when they let him go.

What was it for?

They could have traded him for an actual asset?!

last night Aldridge missed a 1-2 foot put back , with little to no defense on his side of the basket.

Pop would of sent him to the locker room.

If your 6'10- 7' that's a done deal.
I have not watched Spurs with Aldridge but a hand full of times. .. it was a good pickup at the time , but as an all-star he kind of left it in Portland .. IMO

He's not an all star anymore but he's certainly good and skilled enough to be the beneficiary of some unselfish team ball like the Spurs play...and he's still a more impactful player than Derozan (not saying much).

Pop appears to just be letting the young guys free at any cost. I remember trade rumors in regards to Mills, and he's the heart and soul of that stupid team like Ginobili was and just as good right now as he ever was. One of his best seasons. I don't understand it either. Since when are vets who can actually still play a bad thing?

I don't think the Spurs were making the playoffs either way. They have no backbone, and Derozan leading the team is the blind leading the blind. They have no clue how to win and they are pathetic to watch. Couldn't even beat the Pacers at home when they were missing Sabonis, Brogdon and Lamb. :facepalm

i haven't watched many spurs games, but from the outside looking in it seemed like alrdidge never "fit" in. with portland he had more of the lionshare offensively, but here popovich neutered him in a way. lma wasn't terrible or anything although it didn't seem like he was impacting games as frequent.

ya like i said, haven't watched many spurs games. the ones i did see he wasn't doing anything special. looking at the numbers though, LMA had higher bpm finishes with portland. maybe his best playoff run also in-terms of scoring.

how's his play this year?

His highest BPM by a big margin was with the Spurs in 18.

you're saying that was his best year though.

4 of his 5 best seasons in bpm were in portland. was he better there overall?

Literally last year LMA still did 19 ppg on 47%!

He only dropped down from this because of a reduced role, playing 26 minutes in SA this season.

Its just nuts that you let someone like that leave for free for seemingly no reason...

and then ofc BN swoops him up.
