View Full Version : Would you rather have 1 mvp or 1 fmvp?

Forget the fact that winning fmvp means you won it all. Essentially would rather win a an award for being the best player when pressure and defense are minimal or would you rather win an award for being the best player on the biggest stage when pressure and defense are at it highest?

Personally i'd rather be the best of the best than the best of the rest.

If it's a legitimate superstar/BITW one, definitely FMVP. But if it's a role player or non superstar one, MVP

FMVP in any scenario. Even as an anomaly like Iggy being honored as a primary instrument in a title run is more prestigious than being the MVP.

You can get a fmvp for 4 great games to get an mvp you need to play great the whole season. Mvp for me easily.

if i killed it during the regular-season but had a legendary finals to cap it off - i'm taking the finals mvp. if i produce just good enough to win both, i'm still taking fmvp because of the prestige.

only way i'm taking the mvp is if i had a jordan-like season. but then produced like iguodala in the finals. as "fonz" said that is rare though.

FMVP is an afterthought and is low key more of a team award. A MVP is the highest accolade for an individual player so obviously MVP is better.

Id rather just collect a lot of both, but I suppose thats the Lebron Fam mentality coming thru in me.

Would rather win FMVP than MVP. But Barkley > Iggy. There is a difference between what would be the preferable experience and what the award says about the player. FMVP can be won by lesser quality players for lesser quality performances than MVP. Put differently, you have to be a better player to win MVP, than you have to be to win FMVP.

Fmvp cause of the title

This of course does not mean fmvp > mvp in regards to evaluating players on it, but we know op‘s agenda

Sounds like asking "which would you like to be; Iguodala or Westbrook?".

Danny Green almost had a FMVP. In 2013 :oldlol:

Iggy and Billups wouldn't be able to be MVP level players over the regular season

But its hard to see D-rose or Harden outshine everyone in a finals series.

I guess MVP looks better on your resume.

Finals MVP is clearly more valuable. If you're an alltime great, you need at least 1 finals MVP or that tells me you're not an alpha and big game player.

For an example, Jokic's legacy looks way better if he beat lakers last season and went on to win finals MVP vs Heat. Instead, he got his ass kicked in the west finals and is probably going to win reg season MVP this season but still not looked at the same way.

Well that year was one of the few where the fmvp wasn't one of the best players in the league.

Coukd flip that and ask a similar question the years mvp's didn't win. You think lebron would have rather had mvp last year instead of fmvp? You think harden, Westbrook and steph wouldn't trade their mvp's for the fmvp?

It really depends on what stage of your career you're in, and how good you are overall.

A superstar talent winning their first MVP in year 4 would probably rather have that as an accolade, even though they'd likely later trade it for a ring/FMVP if they weren't fortunate enough for the circumstances to win.

Some guys never get to play in a scenario where they can win a ring, so an MVP is huge.

NEITHER.

would rather drop 30pts a night on INSANE efficiency while having every teammate resent me for turning them into full time screen setters and leading the team to a 10th seed :pimp:

Finals MVP for sure.
