View Full Version : People who use the term "critical thinking"

I feel the term used used way too frequently and too loosely. People think regurgitating what they hear from the news is "critical thinking". I heard someone refer to a pro mask wearer as a "critical thinker". I wear my mask but I fail to see how that's critical thinking?

To me it's to see things objectively and research information you don't know and the ability to rationalize both sides of the argument. It's now a term used to appoint someone intelligence because they can follow a heard, but just be more vocal. The term needs to be banned from vocabulary.

The "critical thinking" term comes from more the mindless sheep who are programed to do what media tells them. That is not critical thinking...Not to say it's not rational. It just doesn't require any critical thought.

but that's the joke, isn't it? the far right bringing up their "13%", "hitler wasn't wrong" regurgitating word for word while accusing the left of gulping down whatever the media tells them. they're not doing much critical thinking themselves if all they are doing is copying and pasting (and in this case, the ISH maga fam is constantly plagiarizing word for word far right topics from other forums)

Who on here has written about Hitler not being wrong or mentioned it, except for you just now?

Fair enough. Although I see it applied by quarantiners more. But either way it's thrown around too loosely

The right thinks they're woke and the left doesn't know they're sheep. Is that right? 20 years ago I think it was the other way around.

^ I know this is intended as a glib comment, but in truth mainstream values tend to go back and forth like a pendulum, bc by the time the average Highwhey latches on at the tail end of a social idea, that means it’s already gone too far in that direction, and the smart people are already starting to see its problems and moving back the other way. Then the middle starts to shift back that way and then by the time the average Highwhey latches on at the tail end of a social idea, that means it’s already gone too far in that direction, and the smart people are already starting to see its problems and moving back the other way. Then the middle starts to shift back that way and then by the time Highwhey catches back up to again... you get the idea.

The right thinks they're woke and the left doesn't know they're sheep. Is that right? 20 years ago I think it was the other way around.

The vast majority of people on both sides of the political fence... or hell, people in general... think that they smart, well-informed, and skeptical. And that the sources they get their information from are unbiased. They think they're too smart to be fooled or conned, while the people who disagree with them are either stupid or just naive. Very few people are willing to step back and say to themselves "Wait a minute... just because I want to agree with what that person just said, does that really mean it's true?"
