Watching you tube video and came across that bizarre factoid. I'm bewildered.

Well, if that really happened the Royals deserved their insignificance.

Well not just that. Royals already had an all star young center and Russell was not seen as a good offensive piece.

So trade him for more than 2 ice capade shows.

The story is a lot deeper and complicated. Hoops fans should dive into it because it’s a long basketball story that delves into the founding of the nba but also cements Bill Russell’s status as one of the GOATs.

Also, if Maurice Stokes doesn't have that accident, it doesn't matter. Him and Oscar Robertson would have went on to be the Malone and Stockton of the 60's, and they would have stole a few titles from the Celtics.

It could well have been racism. Tams in the 50's apart from the Celtics didn't want to draft black players.

If I remember right, two teams passed on him, one because of racism, the other because they thought ice capades would bring in a nice chunk of cash. To be fair ice capades was apparently very popular at the time, but I'm still incredulous that a basketball team passed on a GOAT for ice capades.
