View Full Version : Curry vs Rose ONE on ONE

I would love to see this. I don't think Steph can keep Derrick from scoring on drives, but Rose is bound to miss a jumper at some point, and then Curry just needs a couple of three pointers in a row to get back in the game. Granted Rose is an excellent one on one defender so he should be able to contain him without fighting through screens, but Curry's range is enormous and his dribble is also tricky to defend.
Its actually a question I posed to myself for a while - with more and more players that can shoot from the middle of the court, how do you defend against that in a one on one game?

One on one it’s hard to tell anything. Players you never heard of can and do beat stars one on one. Gary Payton was in a 100k one on one contest and lost in the finals to Bo Kimble. Kimble was nice in college but 90% of you never heard of him. Full game and one on one aren’t even similar.

Wasn't he the guy who shot free throws with his opposite hand in tribute to Hank Gathers, who died on the court?

I would absolutely put money on Rose. Not only is he stronger, but I feel like he’d want it more. I could see Curry throwing up some ridiculous shot, maybe making a couple, maybe not. But overall not really caring.
Rose would be on the attack I think.
Rose would very likely win. So what OP?

Nothing, its just a very even matchup with different styles and I like the hypothetical. I play a lot one on one so I was wondering. Obviously anyone can beat anyone in a game to three especially when NBA players underestimate their opponents (hell MJ lost to that CEO dude), but I'm talking about full capacity. Im one of the people who would love to see it in the allstar.

That is one of the last things that would ever happen. None of these guys want to be embarrassed on TNT like that.
If it did happen no one would remotely try. That way if they lose then who cares, they didn’t try.
Westbrook would win because he’d be the only one going after it.

Prime 2011 Rose maybe could beat him. Curry would embarrass him today.

Why? Strength is a huge factor in 1-on-1. If Curry is even slightly off with his jumper (which granted he rarely is) then Rose would actually be doing the embarrassing.
Curry is that classic dude who you see that is better when the court opens up. He's never been a great ISO guy. Relatively speaking anyway.

Rose is still a lot faster and stronger, and hes peaking right now defensively. Rose would much more easily get in front of Curry than vice versa. The only hope Curry has is his shooting.

Nah hes not much stronger lol. Derrick Rose is 6'2 200 lbs. Chef is 6'3 190 and a beast in the weight room. This isn't Curry vs Kobe or something where the guy has not only 30 lbs but 3 inches and an elite post game. Derrick Rose is shorter, barely bigger, and of course we know he doesn't have any post game to speak of so this whole strength advantage isnt making any sense.
Curry would light him up like a Christmas tree if they were both dead serious. It wouldn't even be fair. His inside the arc game has been dominant this year, he'd have Rose juked out of his shoes, and on the other side he could just sag off Derrick and let him brick jumpers.
