View Full Version : Why isn't CP3s season held with the same regard as Nash's 05 season?

Nash was passing much better but CP3 is 100x the defender

Both took non playoff teams to the top seed. Amare, Marion, Iso Joe core already had a playoff appearance without Nash too unlike Booker, Ayton, Bridges

Is it because of the physical profile of both players? Race relations?

CP3 def should have a case for MVP... are his numbers too low?

Passing is a lot more important for a point guard than defense, for one thing.

Secondly, nobody is talking about it because nobody watches/cares anymore.

Thirdly, LEBRON.

05 Nash - 15.5/3.3/11.5 and 3.3 tos, 50/43/89
21 CP3 - 16.2/4.5/8.8 and 2.3 tos, 49/38/93

Nash numbers might've been a bit better but then you look at defense....

It's because Nash led those Suns to noticeably greater heights. 1st in ORtg whereas this year's Suns are 7th and while CP3 is a better defender and these Suns are much better on that end, a PG doesn't have much impact on team defense. Suns don't really fall of on either end when Paul sits actually whereas those Suns were putrid when Nash sat on the bench. Some it was team construction I admit. Another reason is that everyone also acknowledges what a mess this season is. Half the teams are seeing their stars load managing, fighting injuries, and missing games due to COVID protocols. For instance the Suns played 2 games against the Lakers this season. In one of those games Davis didn't play and in another, neither Lebron nor Davis played. The Suns won both of those games but everyone and their grandmother knows that a healthy Lakers team would annihilate these Suns. If they meet in the playoffs it will probably be a sweep.

Steve Nash had an insane offensive on/off at +17.4 that season. I think he was on another level. Nash was the clear cut best player on the suns.

While Chris Paul has had a very good season, he has transioned into a good 2nd fiddle the last 3 seasons, in Houston and then in phoenix. Still a great player, better defender then Booker but most the on/off stats say Booker is their clear cut best offensive player this season.

CP3's '08 season might be better than Nash in '05, but idk about this year...

Because statistically the team does better when Booker is on the court and CP3 is off than vice-versa.

I guess Draymond is the MVP of the Warriors by that logic. Makes sense.

Because we're in the stats era. It dosnt matter how much you impact the game if you don't have ridiculous stats your gonna be undervalued

You're getting mad, but that's the reason. And Draymond's minutes 98% of the time are with Curry, he was dead last season and has been horrible without him this season. I think CP3 should still get some top 5 MVP votes, but he's not close to either of Nash's two seasons. CP3's had several better seasons.

so Nash had way more assists (league leader,) better fg% and better 3p% and worse teammate and your wondering why did he win mvp ? :oldlol:

Works both ways babyboi. Draymond has consistently posted as good and often better on court and on off numbers than Steph over the years specially in the playoffs.

Dont forget Steph never reached MVP level and the Warriors werent a legit team until Kerr started to play Draymond. To start the season they looked horrible and Steph too until Draymond came back.

CP3 is a far better player than Nash thats why.

He had prime Amare, prime Marion, prime QRich and Iso Joe just started entering his prime.

Phoenix won 44 games and took the champion Spurs to 6 games in 03. They just had more injuries in 04 and their PG Starbury got traded during the 04 season.

How many playoffs have Booker or Ayton played pre CP3? Anyone knows?

LOL @ the retard IQ needed to think Nash had worse teammates hahahahaa

Wouldn't say way more. Basically gets 2 assists and 2 points more a game in a D'Antoni system the turns ball handlers into supermen. Question is is the small edge in assists, pts, and efficiency worth more than cp's large advantage on the other half of the game.

Their minutes are 1:1 though, I have no idea why the comparison comes. Booker and CP3 spread their minutes specifically because they're so important. As for Nash vs CP3, I don't really care whose better but it isn't a massive difference like you make it out to be.

If Suns finish 1st, CP3 will sneak his way into 4th place in the MVP voting.

Bubble was rec league ball babyboi. We already know it doesnt count and inflated performances of many players and teams.

See:

Bubble Murray He played the same way after a slow start until he got hurt this year
Bubble AD That was just normal AD until he inexplicably declined this year
Bubble HerroHerro is streaky he wasn’t even that good in the bubble
Bubble JimmyYou mean normal Jimmy? Outside of one game where he hit every jumper he just played like himself
Bubble RondoRondo consistently does better in the playoffs
Bubble BranUh...normal LeBron? He always plays like that in the playoffs. Sorry it makes you butthurt

Bubble Bucks being a bum team. Bubble Heat and Bubble Lakers.

Nash averaged 16/3/12 on ~61%TS and led his team to a 62 - 20 record (they were 2 - 5 without him that season as well), the '21 Suns are playing at a 59-win pace if we adjust their record. The current Suns team isn't better than the '05 one, but they've benefited from the COVID season because the other contenders have struggled with injuries due to a short off-season. Also, take into account that the '05 Suns led the league with a 95.9 pace, which would be LAST in the league today, the '21 Suns are 26th with a 97.2 pace. The average pace has gone up over 8% in the last 16 years.

What Nash did was simply a lot more impressive.
