if that trade goes through, the lakers would have pau/kobe/cp3 to start the 12 season.
do they make the finals and win it that year? do they make the finals in 13 and win it? does cp3 have a finals mvp? does kobe have more of them? a lot of questions, but i believe we would have seen the kobe/lebron finals everyone hoped for.
0. When did Kobe ever work well with another ball dominant guard?

nash was old and injury prone, so i don't know if he would be a good example.. if that is what you're suggesting.
do you think the lakers make the finals in 12 or 13? and is the cp3/kobe tandem short like it was for cp3/harden?
Im so nba'd out

idk if they beat okc in 2012 but if they did. maybe they could of squeezed out a ring. Kobe is an all-time great and Cp3 is like a top 2 pg ever so who knows.I don't see them beating the 2013 heat tho

i believe 2012 would have been tougher. wade was still really good in the playoffs. in 13 though, lebron did a lot of heavy-lifting while kobe had a resurgent year on offense.

I think they win at least one. Phil would of made it work

I still wouldn't pick them to get through the Spurs/OKC/Heat gauntlet in 2012, they might get one in 2013, but they're definitely not winning anything from 2014 on, especially once the Warriors emerge

I thought Pau was headed to the Rockets in that deal, no?
It was actually a terrible trade for the Lakers. Give away Pau and Odom to add a point guard who isn't tall enough to grab Kobe Assists?
Never made sense to me why they did that.

wrong trade dude. you're thinking of the one months later involving kyle lowry. i agree that one made little to no sense. but in the paul scenario, gasol would've remained in la. which would ultimately make them a big 3.
how do you think they'd fair? some argue 1 championship but even that would be difficult. the heat were resilient & lebron was in peak form.

You're remembering incorrectly.

It would have paired CP3 with Kobe Bryant in Los Angeles but it also had a lot of other moving parts. As per multiple reports at that time, here's a look at the players involved (excluding future draft picks) in the full deal between the Lakers, New Orleans Hornets and the Houston Rockets.
Los Angeles Lakers: PG Chris Paul (from Hornets)
New Orleans Hornets: F Lamar Odom (from Lakers), SG Kevin Martin (from Rockets), PF Luis Scola (from Rockets), PG Goran Dragic (from Rockets)
Houston Rockets: PF Pau Gasol (from Lakers)
It was Odom and Gasol for Paul.
I also don't understand the Rockets thinking in giving up Scola, Martin, and Dragic for Gasol. Sure he was better than each of them individually, but they had no realistic chance to compete for a title giving up that much veteran depth. It was a lateral move at best.
And ofc it was a weird choice for the Hornets too who were rebuilding to take on all those vets.
It's about the only example I can recall of a three team trade where everyone is worse off.

got it. thanks for clearing that up. i remember the rumor for lowry but ya, totally forgot about the third party here - which was houston
without pau, who was still pretty good at the time, i wouldn't be as confident in the lakers. they probably are worse off knowing how bynum turned out lol

Definitely 2012.
More IQ, experience and compatibility than 2012 Baby Thunder. On the grounds of IQ alone because one unfortunate team has Westbrick on it making decisions. That Kobe / CP3 / Gasol Laker vs LeBron / Wade / Bosh Heat would’ve been a banger. And would’ve done huge ratings for the league. Could’ve been epic. And I see that theoretical Laker team definitely winning that matchup.
2013? Maybe with CP3, Kobe doesn’t blow his tire dragging an injured malcontent Laker squad kicking, pouting and screaming into the playoffs.

your analysis isn't bad, however i missed a few details about the trade. pau wouldn't have been on the team because it was a 3-way deal. which leaves a pecking order of kobe, cp3 & bynum.
knowing that, how would it alter your take?

I guess you missed the part where OP is literally retarded and forgot Pau was being sent to the Rockets in the trade, and disappeared after being corrected

Nah, Kobe's ego would have made it impossible for them to coexist.
