View Full Version : Gas prices soaring under the Biden presidency

Just filled up at $3.39 a gallon when it was probably $1.39 a gallon just a year ago.

Pipelines being hacked by Russians, and State Department officials under the Biden administration are telling us that it's a private matter between the pipeline company and the Russian hackers.

I know most of you don't drive because you live at home and don't work, but the rest of the country is suffering.

I'm almost embarrassed to share the same space and air with these idiots. There are millions of people like the aforementioned that fell for the propaganda hook, line, and sinker. They bought the narrative that Trump was bad for this country and that the alternative (in this case Biden) would bring about momentous betterment and opportunity. "Build Back Better".

Look at us now. At the mercy of Russian hackers.

both of these failures under private management.
Due in part to cost cutting of vital staffing.

Record low gas prices were due to Covid... Fun fact, gas prices were higher, on average, in May and June of 2018, than they are today. I don’t get why people are surprised lol.

It's actually a very good sign for the economy, means people are out driving, the oil glut issue is finally being resolved.

Oil collapsed due to covid...these current prices (Oil $65 a barrel) is where it is supposed to be for a healthy oil industry....gas prices going back up means things are going back to normal.

https://fred.stlouisfed.org/graph/fredgraph.png?id=DCOILWTICO&nsh=1&width=600&height=400

if you thought $1.39 a gallon was here to stay that's on you

when oil collapsed Trump was actually fighting for HIGHER oil prices.

Trump pushes for higher oil prices in election year (https://www.washingtonexaminer.com/policy/energy/stunning-reversal-trump-pushes-for-higher-oil-prices-in-election-year)

because at $1.39 a gallon, the oil industry can not survive.

I destroyed them with that in the last thread they were crying about gas prices. That is why they started a new thread.

The latest issue was the massive hack just last week that shut down a whole ton of gas pipelines across the entire northeast, which is the latest catalyst after the Texas mess last month. There is a big gas shortage for the time being right when the economy has been opening up & demand going up. Of course gas prices will hike up. I hope it's just for a temporary month max.

This ****ing guy. :facepalm

We now know that the cyberattack on Colonial Pipeline was carried out using ransomware from the Russian hacker group DarkSide. And yet, the Biden administration's response so far has been to take its time, let the company fend for itself, and advertise Biden's infrastructure bill (never let a crisis go to waste, after all). Meanwhile, some cities on the East Coast are already facing the beginning of gas shortages. What's the point of the federal government if it can't protect us from attacks like this?

Lol totally ignored the rest of his post where he debunked all the shit you've been saying. You're a clown. Their response has been the immediately help the company https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/top-us-fuel-pipeline-operator-pushes-recover-cyberattack-2021-05-09/

As the FBI and other government agencies worked with private companies to respond, the cloud computing system the hackers used to collect the stolen data was taken offline Saturday, the person said. Come on man

Why the **** would you think you would know anything about the government's response to a hack? Do you imagine they're going to go find the hacker and hang them in the town square? Should we bomb St. Petersburg just to make you feel better?

Clandestine attacks get clandestine responses. You're not going to see the result on FOX lol.

Another Biden c*ck gobbler. I would expect the government to have plans in place so if a pipeline were to shut down, even for a few days, that we wouldn't see a spike at the pump. But this administration is against pipelines to begin with. They love that dependence on foreign oil. Gotta give that money to the Saudi's.

Why is gas $2 higher than what it was last year? It wasn't even this high prior to Covid.

The term "live at home" or "living at home" is interpreted as being an adult and still living with your parents.

Wife and I drove back from ATL yesterday. Had to fill up in Columbia SC -- wasnt an issue. On the Outer Banks diff. story. waited in line for a half hour to fill up. 90% of the gas stations are out. Sporadically some are being refilled by tankers.

Atleast we're not seeing price gouging by independent stations -- maybe there's a law against that for gas?

And it's a sign of laziness and/or liberal values?

Patrick Chewing
05-12-2021, 01:06 PM
And it's a sign of laziness and/or liberal values?

Living at home? In my experience, it's a sign of laziness and of those people who still do, most of them are Liberal. The most fragile Americans in today's day and age are the younger 35 and under generation. Most of this demographic votes Liberal. Most of these people are having a hard time being self-sufficient. Another good example is all of those people being arrested in Portland and Seattle who are with Antifa. If you look at their mug shots....all young people. Judging by their appearance, they wouldn't be able to hold down a steady job. So unless they all live under a bridge, they probably live at home with their parents.

Liberal values teach people to be free with their expression and to be who they are and be accepting of others. But it doesn't teach them that if you want to be successful, that you have to work hard for it. Liberal values are being poisoned right now by Socialist values. If I don't have to work, the government will still take care of me. As they should. Because being rich and wealthy is evil, and woe is me.

What do you mean “most of these people”? Are you implying that they’re everywhere? You say “in my experience” and then rant about Antifa in cities I doubt you’ve been to. Doing guesswork as to whether or not they can hold down a job. That’s not your experience.

I live in a city with around 7 million people, went to a school that has 40k students, and I can honestly tell you that I don’t think I know an adult who lives with their parents. And many of the people I know are Liberal (it is Atlanta after all). Many are not (it is Georgia after all).

You should probably turn off the news, stop paying attention to extreme outlying groups, and go and meet more actual humans.

In 2019, there were 25.5 million shared households, making up 19.8% of all U.S. households.

The number of adults ages 18 and older living in shared households increased in 2019 to 81.2 million, representing about a third (32.2%) of all adults ages 18 and older.

Disagree with that? Take it up with the Census then.

Do you not understand that Covid made gas prices go down?

People are increasingly living at home because the cost of housing is exploding. It has less than nothing to do with people's attitudes.

Socialism means control by the workers. If you really are against handouts and lazy non-workers, then surely you would be in favor of a massive estate tax.

Disagree with that? Take it up with the Census then.

I don’t disagree with the census. I disagree with your take. For starters...how many of those 18+ are students who live at home? How many are temporary, due to various circumstances? Particularly Covid and it’s hostility toward certain businesses. What proportion of impoverished communities make up this number?

If anything, because there is less housing, people in rural communities are more likely to live with their parents than white liberals in cities. The market is crazy right now.

There’s no context with the census. Your laziness, woe is me argument, isn’t genuine. You’re just inferring things because you want it to be true.

As I said, I live in a liberal city (and I’m 28) and don’t know anyone who lives with their parents. Aside from a cousin who’s a recovering heroin addict but that’s a whole other issue. I doubt he is registered to vote and if he is, he definitely doesn’t vote democrat.

Why disagree with my take? My take was simple. More young adults live with their parents than ever before, and most young adults vote Democrat. Whether you know or don't know anyone who lives at home is irrelevant. I'm not saying there is a concrete correlation between voting Democrat as a young adult and still living at home, but I do find it peculiar. I just don't hear or see the same strife coming from the few young people that vote Republican.

I think there is definitely something to Liberalism being taken over by Socialist ideals and this in turn is breeding a different kind of voter and only harms young adults in the long run. Why are more young people voicing their opinions on wealth distribution as opposed to creating wealth? Why are more young adults talking about having a McDonald's worker make $15 an hour versus having that McDonald's worker use that job as a stepping stone to something bigger and greater. Lack of ingenuity and lack of drive breeds laziness.

ralph_i_el

Exactly. Because there isn't one. As I said before, you can find a correlation with rural, Republican-voting younger folks living at home too. You can find correlations with anything you want.

It's funny because plenty of these people you hear talking wealth distribution...are doing just fine. Voicing an opinion on something doesn't mean that that person is automatically disadvantaged by what they're talking about.

Who in their right mind would support welfare? The goal is to get out of welfare. The goal is to have ample jobs so that people do not have to rely on the government for handouts. All welfare does is breed lazy, unmotivated people, and the more and more we breed this type of American, the more and more we will succumb to China's will. China will devour us in no time.

Wife and I drove back from ATL yesterday. Had to fill up in Columbia SC -- wasnt an issue. On the Outer Banks diff. story. waited in line for a half hour to fill up. 90% of the gas stations are out. Sporadically some are being refilled by tankers.

Atleast we're not seeing price gouging by independent stations -- maybe there's a law against that for gas?

i'd gtfo of there then. i think the weather is really nice in LA but i'd have to be filthy rich to consider living there. living costs are ridiculous and the city is too congested.

I'm thinking about it. I was in Arizona two weeks ago, and it was hot AF. I thought Vegas was hot, Arizona is on another level. I wouldn't be able to live there, I don't know how you and other Arizonans do it. It's not so easy to get up and move though. I have family here, friends, close friends/business partners. My whole life was spent here. And that's not even mentioning the great weather (though some parts of the state's weather is not that good) and how California is just a beautiful state...the mountains, the beaches, the diversity of people/culture/food. Easier said than done.

I'm doing really well in California, but that's not the point. California comes at a cost. Higher taxes, more regulation, and with how 2020 turned out, it's quite clear that California will be the strictest lockdown state. I'm also going under the assumption that the democrats will push for another round of lockdowns some time in the future, and they will push for even more taxes and regulations. These aren't good for businesses.

Then I look at where the one party state of California is trending. More homeless people, more state government tyranny, and more crime. Obviously, higher cost of living is another cost. But I'm not too worried about that, rather opportunity cost. Moving to another state would directly increase how much I make in a year by $x, which is an amount rrr3 would never be able to make. I could use that money to invest even more, and I would have more purchasing power. Basically, moving out of CA can be the difference between retiring in my mid 40's or retiring in my mid to late 50's. That's why I've been thinking about moving to a red state or a purple state where selfish unproductive twaats like this...

They don't care about gas prices...

The rich have state and federal subsidies to makeup the cost of gas. I remember when my parents got their Tesla a few years ago and my dad telling me he got it as a company vehicle which gave him like 10k off in rebates. Sold it for a profit after that just recently....

Those making less than 100k in california are being duped. Your state taxes going towards subsidizing vehicle costs only the middle and high bracket folks can afford? C'mon man...

I'm glad that kid made a song but it doesn't stop what he's saying from being ignorant or incorrect, lol.

The government money printing started long before Biden. It started before Trump and so on and so forth. Inflation was coming and will continue regardless of who the president is. Trump could have gotten re-elected and your counterparts from the left would be screaming about how it was all Trump. But remember, there was bipartisan support to open up the printing press in the spring of 2020 and they all did it willingly, save a very very few congresspeople. Most democrats do not care about you. Most republicans do not care about you.

If you want someone to blame, if America wants anyone to blame... America need only look into a mirror.

The sheep, and yes, almost everyone here is a sheep... left and right alike... being herded up by the wolves. A tale as old as time. You're just programmed NPCs spouting off the same bullshit nonsensical world views over and over and over as if you know what the **** you're talking about when you absolutely do not.

The people on the left are not your enemy. They're just as ****ing stupid and clueless as you are.

The Federal Reserve Act was passed in 1913. The US abandoned the gold standard in 1933 and made it illegal for US citizens to hold gold bullion. In 1971 the US permanently ceased the redemption of dollars for gold. The United States has been a ticking time bomb ever since. Fortunately for you sheep, there is so much inertia built up behind the system that there is no telling when things will truly fall apart and people will be each other in the streets, but that day is coming... and it has absolutely nothing to do with Joe Biden, Donald Trump or any other singular politician that you want to hitch your life problems to and pretend that they're the cause of them all.

Anyways... again, the reason that inflation is so high right now is because of the fact that America has been on an even higher than normal printing spree since the spring of 2020. It was going to happen no matter which president was in office. Stop being a retard. STOP.

STOP. BEING. A. RETARD. (Of course, I know you won't. You can't help yourself. Such is the nature of life.)

Shogon

Also, as far as gas prices specifically go...

You're talking about going from record lows in demand to record highs in demand on a GLOBAL scale all within the course of less than a year and a half. And you're also talking about this transpiring during a time in which pretty much every country on Earth is ramping up the pressure and feeling the pressure themselves from everyone else to transition away from dirty energy sources.

You're talking about money printing that started long ago.

"MUH JOE BIDEN", tho.

He probably shouldn't have cancelled the keystone pipeline but that's not why prices have surged.

There's a lot of nuance here and more that I am educated on but it's definitely not as simple as "Joe Biden!" lol.

I bought my car six years ago and gas prices weren't this high. And it's not a "gas-guzzling car". It's just....a car. Adding an adjective to describe something makes you sound so simplistic. What, you're going to tell me to get an electric car next?

And this is supposedly a free country where anyone can buy whatever they want. But the fluctuation of gas prices and how it hurts the every day American is something that needs to change. Hmm, like perhaps we should stop relying on foreign oil. We have plenty of oil here....but you know....the Liberal snowflakes always put a stop to that.

It's a gas-guzzling car that requires too much gas compared to average to run. It's a simple fact. If gas prices is such a concern, go buy a tesla. You can recharge it fully for a few dollars in your home.

It's not like we drill less oil in USA in 2021 than 10 years ago. It's the same as a few years ago. It's also not like a new gas tax was added this month. It's inflation and demand beyond supply.

Plenty of oil being here is not going to make a difference in the short-term - if Biden suddenly decided to open 10 new oil facilities here in USA, it would take several years for them to come online. It's not like in a snap, you can order it today and next week, you start getting more oil. Opec already has those facilities, but they are choosing to not open up the tap to keep the oil prices up.

The issue is inflation, and it will return to under control sooner next year than giving the order to open new facilities in USA. The only other quick solution in the short-term is convincing opec to open the tap a bit more to the level from 2019.

I drive a Challenger RT and I have to put Premium Gas in there otherwise my car will sound and drive like shit. I just pumped Premium at $4.29 a gallon.

Premium was a $1.99 this time last year. This need to stop and I don't see anyone in power doing anything to help.
A v8 challenger? If that's true, then it's a good thing you have such guzzling car to carry your hefty ass around.

Oil prices began dropping as the US pressures OPEC to open the tap bit more. They have a meeting tomorrow. Right now, they plan on increasing output by 400,000 barrels a day, but USA might pressure for even more.

Oil fell to their lowest point in two months as the U.S. intensified pressure on OPEC+ to boost supplies when it meets on Thursday, while concerns grew that tighter policy from the Federal Reserve will impede growth.

West Texas Intermediate futures sank 2.4% after U.S. President Joe Biden blamed OPEC and its allies for inflationary pressure, while Secretary of State Antony Blinken urged his counterpart in the United Arab Emirates to increase production. Analysts predict that the U.S. could tap its emergency oil stockpiles if the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its partners refuse to speed up the revival of halted supply.

“OPEC+ staying the course is largely baked in, but the market will watch out for surprises,” said Vandana Hari, founder of energy consultancy Vanda Insights.

Despite the pressure from the U.S. and other importers, the cartel is expected to stick to a plan to raise output by a modest 400,000 barrels a day at its meeting. Azerbaijan on Wednesday joined a roster of OPEC+ nations that have said a modest increase would be enough.

For OPEC+, part of the rationale for the modest tempo of supply hikes is that the pandemic still poses risks, with Saudi Arabia saying last month the crisis is “not necessarily over.” At present, more provinces in China are fighting Covid-19 than at any time since the pathogen first emerged in Wuhan in 2019.https://www.worldoil.com/news/2021/11/3/oil-prices-tumble-as-us-intensifies-pressure-on-opec-for-more-crude

It's a partisan issue for Conservatives. Had Trump still been president, they would not say a word about inflation. They would gladly bend over the barrel and take it.

They don't realize that cost of everything has been going up for decades with wages barely going up at all. Income inequality is actually a thing and has been since the 70s, but conservatives will never admit it. Trickle-down economics doesn't work, never has worked, and never will. Conservatives will never admit that either because it exposes Ronald Reagan, Bush jr, and Lil Donny pushing all those tax cuts on the rich.

When you are rich, price going up 10% on food or something is meaningless, but when you are poor or living paycheck to paycheck, 10% is A LOT. Trickle-down economics is useless if your costs keep rising but wages are stagnant.

Biden plans on tapping into oil reserve.

The Biden administration is taking the rare step of releasing oil from the nation's Strategic Petroleum Reserve in an effort to address rising gas prices ahead of the holiday season, the White House said in a statement Tuesday.

As part of the move, the Department of Energy will make available 50 million barrels of oil to lower prices and address the mismatch between consumer demand and supply amid the pandemic that has driven price to their highest levels in seven years, the White House said.

The action, which has been in the works for several weeks, comes amid growing concern within the White House about inflation as prices rise on everything from fuel to Thanksgiving turkeys. The release of the oil reserves should quickly translate into lower prices at the pump, and officials will be watching to make sure energy companies are passing along lower oil prices to consumers, a senior administration official said Tuesday.

Saw a station charging $5/gal today, first time I have ever seen prices that high in the Portland area.

When Trump left office it was around $2.40/gal around here... so the price has basically doubled in one year.
