View Full Version : What happened to the "All politicians are crooked" crowd?

I remember reading posts here for years just talking about how one side is not any better than the other cause all politicians are out for themselves and they're all crooked and blah blah blah.
Then, the American public elects a non-politician to be President, and all hell breaks loose. Now, I will admit that Trump has always been a flawed man in terms of his ego, but the man was a Populist President. He ran on railing against the establishment on both sides. Before he drove Democrats crazy, he completely obliterated lifetime politicians like Jeb Bush, Marco Rubio, and John Kasich.
Then, as soon as he became President, all of you were against him and supporting Democrats again in impeaching him for no reason other than he didn't bow to the establishment. You're all of a sudden in favor of big government and you're so patriotic now after the Jan. 6th Capitol Hill riot. I thought you people hated the government? Hated the establishment? Hated career politicians? Suddenly someone comes in there and starts to ruffle feathers and rail against the establishment, and you morons decide to attack him? What gives? Why the sudden change of heart and become pro-government again? Is it really just because Trump ran as a Republican and not a Democrat? You're upset because he wasn't from your Party?

Do you actually care about the things the government does after elections, or just about who is mad? Normally someone who cares enough about politics to post daily screeds also has some sort of issues they care about.

We are worse off in the first 100 days of a Biden presidency, then in the previous 4 years of a Trump presidency. So I care about the ramifications of voting someone out because of some fabricated hatred you had for him, only to vote in someone who is 100 times worse and justify it by saying things like, "Finally we can get back to normal". Normal? Inflation? Higher taxes? Gas shortages? Middle East tension? China eating our lunch? Not normal by a long shot.

Inflation- Trump cut the first stimulus checks. The FED under Trump continued quantitative easing
Higher Taxes- Raising taxes on income over 400k to levels STILL LOWER than before Bush's tax cuts. We are still at one of the lowest tax rates in the history of US income tax. This is a tax increase that impacts about 1% of Americans.
Gas Shortages- I would bet this is a non-issue a week from now.
Middle East tension- Biden appointed a huge pro-Israel hawk in Blinken as SoS, and he's continued the exact same policies of Pompeo
China "Eating our lunch"- Trump had China literally NOT eating our lunch....in the form of not purchasing our farm produce and severely impacting our agriculture sector. What has China done under Biden that has rustled your jimmies?
Trump talked a big game about solving some serious issues caused by the R's and D's....but he didn't actually do anything. He took all our anger at the two parties and used it to grift us. I don't know how you could listen to that guy speak and come away thinking that he actually knew what he was talking about.

I wonder if you would have afforded Trump the same grace.
Shit's not looking good from where I stand. But I love the people that say that Trump's economic prowess was a result of Obama's 8 years. So, it takes a President 12 years to right the ship? Just want to know how long it takes an administration to actually turn a country around.

fair argument. from a policy perspective, trump was your typical republican president. tax cuts, deregulation, hard line immigration, etc. he really didn't do anything out of the ordinary besides talk a big game, which was what won him the white house in the first place. it doesn't get you very far after that, though.
trade and foreign policy are what separated him from the rest, but as far as anything out of the ordinary as a non-politician, it was all bluster and political gamesmanship.

He made moves that were clearly aimed at pleasing oligarchs rather than helping people (what he was supposed to be doing). See: trying to get rid of the ACA with no replacement and massively lowering corporate tax rates. Also massively increased drone strikes cuz he was a stooge for the defense industry.

You can spin anything the way you'd like with conspiracy theories. "Oh he was doing that to please his oligarch friends hurr hurr hurr". And where is the proof that he dropped more drone strikes than Obama did? You have proof of that? Or more made up fantasies from that polluted brain of yours?

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-47480207
"There have been 2,243 drone strikes in the first two years of the Trump presidency, compared with 1,878 in Mr Obama's eight years in office, according to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, a UK-based think tank."
So what did Trump do? He just removed the rule that said they had to report the number of casualties. It's likely he killed many times more people with drones than Obama did, but we might not find out the true extent for years.

The Republican party didn't even release a platform for the 2020 election. I voted based on what the political parties said they were going to do when they were in office. How the hell could I justify voting for a political party that had literally no plans other than "Do whatever this methed up reality show host says on any given day"? Caring this much about the individual politician's personalities is very dumb.
I voted for democrats this election because:
1. I was tired of the Trump folks doing low-level mafia type grifts using the federal government. Kushner literally stole PPE from states and sold it out the back door.
2. Republicans want to get rid of the ACA. Democrats at least paid lip service to expanding it (they won't, they're mostly bought too)
3. Trump broke the Iran deal for no good reason, meaning we lose everything we gave up in the original deal for absolutely no payoff now
4. Trump sent Jared Kushner to negotiate peace in the ME, even though he's literally an investor in West Bank settlements. This is probably the most braindead foreign policy move of the last decade.
5. Taxes on the rich need to go up. It's not just about tax-and-spend stuff. There's a lot of negative impacts on the economy due to inequality. You seen house prices? Low taxes on the rich means they have more money to spend snapping up houses as investment properties, pushing the prices up and pricing out people who actually need somewhere to live. Democrats said they would raise taxes on the rich (although their promised increases would still have tax rates extremely low compared to historical rates).
Democrats suck. I'm a registered Republican. I was raised conservative. I've seen the Republican party turn into maybe the most evil organization on the earth. I wish we had a parliament with proportional representation, so other parties had a chance.

There was no stability in the White House last 4yrs either. It was a revolving door. Anyone who didn't constantly suck up to the guy in the White House didn't last long.
There was also no mental stability or maturity in the very guy in charge of the white house. He was always raging at every little thing. There was no adult in the room asking for prudence. It was also a constant scandal on top of scandal. Why? Because it was being run like a reality show to create excitement & increase tv ratings through entertainment than to actually govern.

I don't really watch CNN. Flipped to it twice this year - January 6 and January 20th. I did watch the presidential address to joint houses of congress (didn't watch post-coverage because I was watching nba) so 3 times I flipped to cnn in 5 months. I watched msnbc even less - probably just on January 6 and might have watched a few short segments on January 20. I don't watch any other tv news channel.
Last year I watched CNN maybe 5 times at most. Oh, I was watching it regularly last March/April when covid was big news. But that lasted a month before I got sick of hearing about covid.
