In colonial times in the Americas if you had 1 drop of African blood in your ancestry, you were considered Black, even if it was only 1 of your great-great-grandparents. OP claiming these guys as Filipino is like that. Thomas Jefferson had kids with his slave, who was considered black, even though she was only 1/4 black (she was half sisters with his dead wife), and 3 of their kids ended up passing as white.
