Not sure what he gains by pretending to drive a truck.... but I guess it was worth putting on a whole charade to make people think he is capable of pushing a gas pedal. It's probably a very old policy from back when cars were not reliable or very safe. There are probably also national security reasons because the president is always a target for crazy people like the OP.

Secret Service is on protection duty for the rest of the president's lives anyways. Why drive when you have your own personal bodyguard/driver, who is specially trained in evasive driving and full combat anyways? Let them drive you around in your limo.
