'They need this'
"I’ve gone as far as saying the league wants this, they need this," McMillan said Wednesday, per the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. ... "New York, you know, this is a big market. It’s a big market for the league and New York has been out of the playoffs for a number of years. And this is a team that our league, they want to see.

"There’s a huge fanbase. They want to see New York in the playoffs. ... I think the NBA is excited about them being back in the playoffs.”

NEW YORK – Atlanta Hawks head coach Nate McMillan has been fined $25,000 for detrimental public comments asserting bias by the NBA relating to the 2020-21 Playoffs, it was announced today by Byron Spruell, President, League Operations.

Talk about cancel culture, Nate McMillian keeping it real but NBA shutting him down like he lived in Shanghai China.

that's not even a remotely scandalous thing to say though. New York is the biggest media market in the country, is it not? So it would make sense from a business standpoint to welcome the recent success of the Nets and the Knicks. it's not like mcmillan suggested the NBA was rigging or fixing games on NY's behalf. I mean the Knicks being perennial losers forever kinda proves that

That's what makes it crazy, McMillian didn't suggest the games were rigged or the referee's were going to give calls to New York he just stated the obvious and they fined him. Did the League fine Mark Cuban, Luka and Lebron when they made public statements about the play in tournament?

Knicks and Hawks have identical records, Hawks had the 3rd most injuries all year, Knicks were one of the healthiest teams all year but 12 out of14 pundits pick the Knicks to win a toss up series. Hmmm

Why would you think this is a surprise? The NBA is a business. They solely operate on the principle of making money. That's why its up to us as fans to individually critique things.

The fact that they try to silence anyone who even hints at it just proves it. Where there's smoke there's fire.
