MJ needed Pippen and Phil Jackson.

LeBron just needed a ball.

Impressive but there's also a team that did something almost as impressive as well.

2007-08 hawks under mike woodson went 37-45 but still got the 8th seed in the east and pushed the eventual champion 66-16 celtics to seven games in the first round of the playoffs

2013-14 hawks under mike budenholzer would do the same feat as well but this time, went 38-44 for the 8th seed in the east and pushed the 1st seed 56-26 pacers to seven games too in the first round of the playoffs

Even with losing records and playing in a mediocre conference, at least they did a better job at winning games after the regular season, unlike the 2020-21 warriors that went 39-33 to become the 8th seed in the west without klay but ultimately succumbed in the new losers bracket against king kong's lakers and a young grizzlies team that had ja morant, dropping them to the 9th seed and no playoff berth once again.

Biggest victims of the losers bracket indeed. Curse you, adam silver.:rant

Wow, what a roster :lol

The crazy thing is LBJ actually did better without Kyrie in 2015 Finals

Game 1 Kyrie played and Cavs lost

Then LeBron went 2-3 without Kyrie.

Meanwhile Curry has a much better team right now and couldn't even make the play offs:roll:

But he couldn't lead the Cavs to the Finals with homecourt advantage, another all-star by his side, and Orlando missing their all-star?

An even bigger mistery is how they won that game while shooting .32% from the field. The 5/23 shooting performance by Curry is probably the solution to the mistery.

Love before Lebron > Gasol before Kobe

Kobe made Gasol a great second option.

Lebron made Love a mental case.

HOW LARRY HUGHES GOT TO CLEVELAND

SI.com

He may have been the most important NBA free agent to change teams this summer, but the people of Cleveland were wary. As the Cavaliers announced the signing of Larry Hughes to a five-year, $60 million contract last Thursday at Gund Arena, several hundred fans, many on their lunch breaks, took turns grilling the 6'5"shooting guard. "What do you say to your critics who point out that you had your best year in a contract year?" asked one man. After responding that the ball didn't care about free agency when he shot it, Hughes did a slow burn as another fan mentioned his mediocre shooting (43.0%) with the Washington Wizards last season. "I'll get you two [points]," said the 26-year-old Hughes, "and I'll definitely not let the other guy get two or three at the other end, so that's a difference of four or five points right there." Hearing the combativeness in his voice, the crowd broke into applause.

Little did they know that Hughes had long before won over the franchise's most significant figure. Throughout 2004--05, All-Star small forward LeBron James had tried to persuade Hughes to come to Cleveland, where he could play Pippen to James's Jordan. LeBron's appeals intensified during a late-season Wizards win in which Hughes scored 31 to damage the Cavs' playoff chances. "We talked about it that whole game," says Hughes. "He kept saying, 'Come play with me.' And I kept saying, 'Nah, I'm staying in Washington.'

Hughes literally kept Lebron from the 05' Playoffs and then helped Arenas win the 1st Round... Then Lebron stole Hughes from Arenas and beat Arenas in the 1st Round.

Love was a perennial all-star in 2018 and the best 2nd option in the conference, while Kyrie played half the games in the 15' Eastern Playoffs (including half the ECF games).

And by virtue of being all-stars or all-defenders in 2005, Zydrunas/Hughes weren't "bums" when Lebron made the playoffs in 2006 - they were decorated players that Lebron had begged to join him (see previous post above).

So Lebron never carried "bums" or low seeds to the playoffs or a deep run, whereas MJ did from 85-89' (he led undecorated role players to the playoffs or deep runs, including with low seeds)... By contrast, Lebron barely won 40 games with the East all-star center in 05', or Rondo/Ingram in 20'.

Btw, Boobie Gibson scored 31 points in the closeout game to carry the Cavs to the Finals, while Lebron wet the bed..
