View Full Version : Luka is such a GOAT

Dude will have the reigns of the NBA once Lebron retires. Luka is a straight up prodigy and on a clear path to the top ten of all time, maybe even the top four. It will be just like Lebron in that it will boil down to if Luka can consistently be on teams with a lot of talent for a decade or so. Right now he has KP and some solid role players, but KP has been super inconsistent and injury prone.
Bron better keep playing games these next few seasons otherwise Luka might catch him in all around stats. If Lebron retires and Luka gets another legit star player like 11 Wade or 2020 AD, then it's a WRAP for the league.

OH yeah, I forgot this is the only time the very young Luka has done anything impressive. Thanks for letting me know Luka just had his first good game ever.
You'd probably say people are prisoners of the moment after a young MJ dropped 63 points against Bird's Celtics in the 86 playoffs.

No I wouldn’t. Anyway he’s a below avg 3pt shooter. A below avg defender and I’m being nice. He’s still not a guy in the best of shapes and I’m sure he will admit that much. He hasn’t won shit. And somehow he’s going to challenge the top 4 players in NBA history? Because you still haven’t come down off your boner for the guys performance earlier? Yikes.

The youngest players in NBA history with a 30-point triple-double in the playoffs:
1. LeBron - 21 years old
2. Luka - 21 years old
3. Luka - 22 years old

Kid's averaging an efficient 31/9/9 in his first 7 Playoff games w/ a 3 - 4 record and that's against the Clippers' elite defense. He's definitely on his way.

GOBB doesn't realize Luka literally outplayed Kawhi and PG in last years series including that epic 40 point trip dub game winner performance.
Luka at age TWENTY put up 31/10/9, 59.6 TS% on Kawhi/PG, two elite wing defenders in last years series and probably would have beaten the Clips if Kristaps doesn't get hurt.
Only guys like Magic and Lebron have been on Luka's level as a 19-21 year old.
First game... 30 point triple-double in a series that people don't think they win... How many players do this?
Look what Magic did in his 3rd NBA season. Finals MVP. Miss me with the talk. Anyone currently challenging top 4 players of all time has a long way to go. People talking top 10 with guys like Durant still playing. And he’s not on pace to crack it but Luka is? F*ck outta here

You know you've lost any bball discussion when you start ignoring individual performance and go STRAIGHT to "DiD hE wIn Or LoSe".
BBALL isn't tennis idiot, it's a TEAM game and Luka's Mavs teams have clearly been inferior talent wise to the Clippers last year and this year.

The list of players as good or better than Doncic at age 22 is pretty short. LeBron, Magic..... nobody else springs to mind. I suppose you could make an argument for rookie MJ. He missed his 2nd season due to injury at 22.
Proclaiming luka the GOAT now is obviously premature but for his age he is top 3 that I've ever seen.

GOBB do you think Trae Young is better?
You're comparing Doncic to Magic... is there anyone else you'd like to compare him with? Or just one of the greatest players to ever play basketball...

Team game? It’s more star dependent than any team sport out there. One player can determine outcomes. Your dumb ass is making claims about top 10, top 4? So guess what. What he has won while you are slobbing his knob matters. How far he has gone since you are getting all giggly over his one game in the playoff matters. There is elite company in the top 10. Guys like Durant and Curry are still adding to their careers. And here you are a dude year 3 is gonna be amongst legends? Legends that people til this day still argue rank? Ok. Kareem wilt MJ Bron Magic Bird Shaq Kobe Duncan Big O. This kid is still a virgin. Good luck trying to break into this prestigious group over a playoff triple double.
I get it. He’s white and you want that Eminem.

I’m comparing him to a guy in my top 4 players of all time. Top 10 at the worst. Because that is what he Op did. He said he’s on pace to be top 10, top 4 even when it’s all said and done. Durant is still playing and adding to his career. And he’s not gonna crack top 10 given his great career. Curry just had an amazing season and he’s not cracking top 10. Sorry I’m comparing Luka to magic since that is where the OP feels he will be.
To answer your question yes Luka is better. He’s certified top 10. Trae is not. Luka is being argued with your James harden, Durant, Curry, Leonard, Giannis of the world. He’s legit and has areas of his game he can improve. But it’s way too early to be talking top 10 all time, top 4 all time. He’s gotta accomplish more.

I don't take too much from his stats. He almost certainly wouldn't be putting those numbers up in certain other eras. He's a great player though. Much better than Kawhit Leotard.

Giannis looked like a scared kid today. It was embarrassing.
I think maybe Zion will be in the discussion as well. Needs to improve his d and especially rebounding but offensively he is already a force.

Yeah Kareem was 32 in Magic rookie year. His decline was pretty noticable a couple years later.
Still a good player but playing an NBA schedule in your mid 30s is tough. Not enough recovery time. If they played just twice a week it wouldn't be a problem but 3-4 times a week is a struggle at that age.

And MJ had prime Pippen as his teammate. And we ALL know how well MJ did without his safety blanket, Scottie Pippen.

Luka...GOAT...4 letters each? Wow.
Imagine watching MJ average 40ppg in his first few playoff series and dismissing him by saying "wHaT hAs He WoN".
Just appreciate individual greatness without the dumb team narratives.
We might see the SECOND year in a row that Luka outplays Kawhi and PG with a worse team, and Luka is still just a kid.

When I check active players, I think Doncic is the player who has most chance to be GOAT. However he has less chance to be a top 10 than Lebron (already top 10), Durant (close to top 10) or Curry (close to top 10).
He has potential to be GOAT but it does not mean he is great now. Currently he is not even a top 50 player.

From a career perspective, looking at how he will rank all time...I am semi worried about Luka's weight. He's only 22 years old but it looks to me like his body wants to balloon on him. I hope he can keep it in check or I think it will be an issue for him down the road.

He had Basketball Hall of Famers Kareem (tail end) and Jamaal Wilkes (dead middle) in their primes on his squad to help him get there. Must be nice. :applause:

He doesn't have a chance at GOAT unless he wins 7 titles.
His defense is always going to be an issue. When you're trying to be viewed as greater than Jordan, who was an A+ help defender and an excellent on ball defender. This is extremely hard to accomplish when you are relied upon to score 35 a game as Kawhi has found out.
Luka may have a case eventually for offensive GOAT like Magic does. But neither sniff 99 percent of the GOAT discussions.
That's not even mentioning LeBron. His overall defense will always be a major trump card in any Luka debate historically.

These goat discussion are a little silly.
I mean, to me, you can have MJ, Larry, Magic, Kareem in a serious discussion for GOAT, based on a criteria of what level of basketball mastery their absolute peak reached.
What has never mattered to me was longevity.
The peak of basketball mastery is like a 5 year period of total dominance.
Bird reached a level of total dominance and mastery that rivals MJ.

That criteria isn't used much. Otherwise Tmac would be viewed like Kobe. At Mac's best he was not any worse than Kobe as a ball player.
Luke can be the GOAT of his era. Thats really all you can do anyway. Comparing players across eras is extremely pointless anyways if you think about it.
I'd say he will be the GOAT of his era. I don't see Zion being good enough for long enough to touch Luka.
I could make the case Luka is the best offensiv player in the world and has been for the past two seasons in totality.
