"The truth was, I didn’t know how good I’d become or what I could do against pros,” said Jordan. Jordan never really thought much about the NBA other than as another place to play, and never really cared for the game, even after several years in the league. He said he rarely watched games, thought they were boring, and doubted he’d ever come to an NBA game after his retirement."
sitting here reading the jordan rules out boredom and came across this in it. So.. he actually didn't even care for the game? I mean you can't take everything he says seriously but wow if true.

Yeah i remember that. He probably was a bit unsure about how he would do against pros. Obviously he cares more about the game than he let on.
Keep in mind when he was growing up the NBA wasn't anywhere near what it is today.

Hard to say. On on hand he had the legendary “Love of the game” clause in his contract that allowed him to play anytime anywhere as opposed to normal nba deals that limit non team ball for safety(and to limit side games for money they don’t get a cut of). On the other...it’s not impossible he loved baseball more and went so hard in basketball out of sheer competitive drive. Lots of people who played hard as hell aren’t exactly fans. Iverson was football first. Westbrook said he didn’t grow up caring about the nba. Nobody doubted their effort level on the floor. Could be similar for Jordan but I doubt it.

Well Sam Smith says the exact opposite here:

Jordan has said many times post-retirement his love for the game is as strong as ever but the body won't allow him to play.
You can also see when he watches Hornets games:
