View Full Version : LeBron’s asterisks

How has this supposedly top 3 all time player managed to perform so poorly when it matters most that he scarcely has a legitimate championship

His teams regularly underperform and are less than the sum of their parts.
The guy never seems to have enough help no matter how many superteams he forms :confusedshrug:

supreme embarrassment in 2011
lockout 2012 season with this ring being about as valuable as KD’s
2013 saved by ray allen
2016 saved by Kyrie
2020 once in a century pandemic paved the way

What gives?

OKC was also in a lockout in 2012, so there's no asterisk there.

2016 had no asterisk at all. It was one of the greatest NBA finals and NBA finals victories in league history, possibly the greatest.

2020 had Covid and LAL faced a weak opponent after LeBron's colluding with AD, but again Miami was also in the bubble and dealt with the same conditions. Even if there was no Covid, Miami stood zero chance of beating LA. Case in point - No asterisk.

The only let down here that you've really mentioned is 2011. And that isn't enough to write off LeBron's entire career. The fact that you made this thread is insulting enough. Reassess how you critique an ATG player's career.

There are many ways to scrutinize LeBron. This isn't one of them.

I think this thread gets made at least once a month. The fact this is what you’re thinking of with the playoffs just starting is quite pathetic

What gives?

2012 - lockout season vs 23 year old chokers *
2013 - bron brick, bosh rebound, ray allen 3 *
2016 - Adam silver *
2020 - bubble *

All those don’t count as rings.

2011 is at least one negative ring, he team hopped with the 2nd and 4th highest per, got outscored in the finals by Jason Terry despite playing way more minutes...

Bron is at (-1) ring count and a borderline top 35 player of all time

We never saw Lebron be with a team and have that team be better over time with him. His blueprint was to team up with ready made superteams and milk that sht. After 4 years, move to the next superteam and repeat. So yes, a lot of asterisks in his resume.

The Cavs went from 19 to 66 wins in 5 years.

Why is 2011 about Lebron? That run by the Mavs through the playoffs was all time. They embarrassed everyone.

Not 1, not 2... not 8. That mia team was built to be dominant over the league.

Because the biggest addition his FO made in his entire tenure was Larry Hughes and Mo Williams:roll:

Lol, he quit in short. He could not create that winning culture. Leadership is not trying to do everything yourself. He could not do it so he went the easier path by teaming up with other stars.

Players are the ones on the court at the end of the day. He could have been the bigger personality there driving the thing around for CLE without the need for an intermediate step of going to MIA. Again, he could have built that culture over so many years in CLE.

Lebron already surpassed Kobe in 2013. The Cavaliers are a small market team. It's very hard to recruit some free agents in the mid 2000's

Because he was a so called GOAT who promised 7 rings from day and one teamed up with 2 other top 5 PER players in the league.

Against Jj Berea and Jason Terry with Dirk lol

The so called GOAT also buckled under pressure - as he does.

One of the funniest failures in history
