I know its a bit late, but what did you guys think of this film?

I thought it was very good but it just didn't have that x-factor or oomph or whatever the hell it is that takes an epic type film over the hump.

I guess Gibson was targeting a pantheonic type film and all he got was a well made film that you wouldn't really need to see again.

Apocalypto f*cking rules.

Of course I didn't understand a word they were saying but I thought the acting was great. I am a big Mel Gibson fan, both as a director and and an actor, and this was a great film for him as a director.

Everyone was b*tchin about violence and torture scenes but I didn't think it was bad at all and I usually have a weak stomach when it comes to that stuff. I thought visually it was great and told a great story. It did get a little out of control in the city but other than that I thought it had great pacing.

**SPOILER**

What the hell was with the diseased girl? They never mentioned the sickness again in the rest of the film. I've only seen it once so I may have missed something but I was confused about that.

Exactly. I checked Rottentomatoes and apparently majority of the cast was making their acting debuts so kudos to Mel Gibson. One thing you can say about Mel is he's got BALLS. There were so many scenes when I couldn't help but just say, are you kidding me?

It just missed something that could've taken it to another level and I don't know what it is. Starpower maybe? Mass appeal?

I think the diseased girl was just random. Must be something to do with that particular tribe/race believing in omens coming from random signs and the sick girl would just happen to be one of them. There were a lot of scenes that required reading between the lines and personal interpretation and that was probably one of them.

great movie...loved every second of it... i like when directors don't treat us viewrs like simpletons and spell everything out for us, i never felt the movie pandered to the viewer and even though it wasn't a mystery of what was going on it did keep me wondering what was going to happen next... favorite scene was when the black jaguar joined the chase...

the 1st thing that came to my mind was the fact that the spanish brought diseases w/ them when they arrived, but they weren't shown arriving until the end of the film. good movie that i just watched last night. the jaquar chewing on that guy's face was awesome! even though there's no way in hell jaquar paw would have outran it, that's hollywood for ya. it's hard to believe that stuff like that really happened, people getting captured and sacrificed like that by the thousands. i watched a special on tv where they were trying to calculate how many sacrifices they did during one period of time and it was in the 10's of thousands. horrible.

Are you guys serious. This was a bad movie. Not bad as it snap the DVD. But not good as advertised at all. Not one of Mel's best work.

One of the best film that was made by Mel Gibson, and Jaguar Paw rocks as he kicked some Mayans ass at the end of the movie.

My Favorite Part of the movie was the Shoot the Runner Sequence & the Chief removing the heart of the Aztec Warrior.

Rudy Youngblood is a great actor, and i want to see him play the role of Montezuma the last Aztec Emperor before Hern

I thought it was pretty decent. I agree i couldn't watch it again, and it lacked something to put it over the top, but i was entertained. Definitely adds to my opinion of Mel Gibson's ability to make movies. I didn't even think the Jesus Christ movie he made was bad, forget what it was called. And they are all very different type of movies, including Braveheart on a level of gore and violence, so i give him props :pimp:

i'd like to join in saying that this film is pretty damn cool. favorite scene is probably when (SPOILER ALERT) the captives are about to be sacrificed to god. that is some freaky, frightening stuff.

I really liked Apocalypto. Not the type of movie I'd buy to watch multiple times, but definitely an entertaining movie.

I hear it is good, but horribly inaccurate to their culture. No surprise that Mel painted brown people in a bad light.

I don't get why people say they film does not have a re-watch value... It's very picturesque, and I'd definitely watch it for the third time, just to absorb that environment and historical details (which of course might be very inaccurate in times). Great costumes and great visuals in this movie. Nice simple story as well. I'd give it 9/10

It may not have a lot of creativity or flare but it's entertaining and thrilling diring the chase.

They are only crying inaccuracy because it showed their culture for the bloodthirsty pro-human sacrifice culture that history and archaeological findings proved it was.

It could be wrong in terms of the costumes, but it got the part about the Aztecs being a culture of coked up cultish blood thirsty human sacrificers spot on.

GREAT MOVIE.

Great movie.

A man needs to be on his own turf. The way the protagonist comes to life when he makes it back to his native soil is epic.

One of my favorites too. I will say there are times when Gibson goes too far for the sake of going too far. Stuff that would have been better left out of the final edit. Grotesque stuff.

But there was grotesque stuff that made the movie better as well. I'm not really sqeamish, and it is a "man's movie," doesn't really have much to offer females or kiddos. So it's not too bad.

GREAT MOVIE.

Weren't they Mayans though?

Far and away the best civilization in Age of Empires lol, featuring Plumed Archers JUST like the dress the "hunters" wore before attacking the captives.

But yeah that's correct. And raping, pillaging, theiving, conquering Hernan Cortez was, legitimately a more civilized leader of people despite his tactics of war, even going so far as sparing the life of Cuahtemoc, the grandson of Moctezuma, for his bravery in defending his people. The way the Spanish treated their own were above and beyond the way many Mayan or Aztec tribes backstabbed theirs in attempts for small portions of booty. Actually thankful Christendom spread and improved the lives of many in Central America.

And there were so many motifs sprinkled throughout the movie that were worth pondering.

The way in which the jaguar chose to chase down the oppressors could be a symbol that showed how Jaguar Paw was more.. harmonious.. in his way of life than the enslaving tyrannical paws.. This is also the reason why the Eagles chose to aid the hobbits.

In the beginning when the neighboring tribe came to meet the protagonists crew... jag Paws father mentioned "Fear.. is a sickness that disturbed their peace." It should be treated and cured accordingly.

>No creativity
>Entire film is spoken in a dead language
>Completely reinvents the chase sequence
